Traffic engineering services to be conducted at busy intersection
Lehighton plans to address an anticipated spike in traffic flow along a flourishing intersection.
On a unanimous vote, borough council on Monday approved the proposal to provide traffic engineering services for Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard, Lehigh Drive and Main Lane.
Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said the cost is $15,500 for the first phase of the study, which would come out of the 2018 budget.
Before the vote, Councilman Scott Rehrig said it appears as if the services are warranted.
“According to the proposal, I think it’s proper, and I think it’s needed,” Rehrig said.
In August, council agreed to bring in a traffic engineer to study Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.
Beckett previously said there has been discussion and observations of the traffic flow on Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.
She said at that time speed limit and pedestrian improvements were a concern, along with additional analysis of other changes are needed.
The Lehighton Outdoor Center — Home of Jim Thorpe River Adventures and Northeast PA Kayak School, will be located at 123 Lehigh Drive just off Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.
