Truck crashes after tire blows

A truck crashed along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County on Wednesday after a front tire on the rig blew apart.

State police at Frackville said Everton Rutherford, 56, of Douglasville, Georgia, was driving a 2010 Volvo truck tractor southbound at 7:53 p.m. when the right front tire blew apart and shredded down to the rim, causing him to lose control.

The truck veered right until it hit the guide rail along the west shoulder. After initial impact, the truck continued off the west side of the road, through a culvert and up an embankment into trees, where it came to rest.

Rutherford was not injured.
