Two Carbon County agencies are getting more help to give more help.

Carbon County Action Committee for Human Services and Family Promise of Carbon County received a total of $79,200 in state Department of Community and Economic Development Emergency Solutions Grant funds.

The Action Committee received $45,000 and Family Promise $34,200.

The county received $2,970 to administer the grants, but has given the money to Family Promise to provide services.

Commissioners on Thursday revised the 2019 budget to reflect the changes.

Retirement board

Also on Thursday, the county Retirement Board heard from two of its investment consultants, Michael W. Shone and Sarah E.R. Wilson of Marquette Associates,

They gave an overview of the economy, and then focused on the county’s investment portfolio.

Despite the current volatile market, Carbon’s portfolio is doing better than some others because of its conservative approach and diversification.

The board balked at Shone and Wilson’s suggestion that they purchase an additional service package that would include the county relinquishing some of its powers, including the hiring and firing of managers.

Controller Robert M. Crampsie and Treasurer Ronald J. Sheehan urged the board to take its time on the proposal.

Commissioner William J. O’Gurek agreed, and Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard did too, urging the board to take time to study the proposal.

Commissioners Chairman Wayne E. Nothstein, however, appeared to favor it.

The board will review the proposal before considering it.
