Two Carbon inmates face charges over incidents at prison
Two Carbon County inmates faces various charges after they caused problems at the county prison.
Robert William Mason, 48, of White Street, Weissport, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to Nesquehoning police, on Dec. 5, at 7:57 p.m., police received a call from prison staff that Mason had brought drugs into the prison that were discovered during an intake search.
The sergeant said that the baggie that was removed from Mason was meth.
Mason told police he was walking his dog on his way to deliver the baggie of meth to a friend when the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody on a warrant. He said as they approached, he stashed the meth in his pants, and when he realized he was going to be strip searched, he managed to maneuver it inside himself, where it was later found.
Another Carbon County inmate, Brad Robert Simpson, 49, of West Snyder Avenue, Lansford, was charged with institutional vandalism after he ripped up a bench that was bolted to the floor in a booking cell.
Nesquehoning police were called to the prison on Dec. 6 for the incident, in which Simpson ripped the bench from the floor and threatened to harm the corrections officers if they entered the cell. He was also ramming the cell door with the bench.
