Two charged after trying to purchase guns

Two people were recently cited by Tamaqua Police for providing false information in their attempt to purchase guns at Ed’s Sports Shop, 308 W. Broad St., Tamaqua.

Bryan Sookbirsingh, 29, of Effort, was in the sports shop on Feb. 17 and wanted to purchase a gun. When he filled out the ATF forms, he answered no to questions concerning drug use. At the time, he was under indictment in Stroudsburg for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He pleaded guilty to those charges on April 4.

He has been charged with providing false information in regard to firearm ownership and making a false statement.

Rian Shubeck, 21, of 35 E. White St., Summit Hill, attempted to purchase a Beretta Nano 9 mm pistol on March 1. At the time, Shubeck was under indictment for driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Nov. 10, 2017. The case is still pending.

He has been charged with providing false information in regard to firearm ownership and making a false statement.
