Two face child endangerment charges

Two Tamaqua residents face child endangerment charges.

Kevin T. Heiser, 40, and Christina M. Brode, 35, of the same address, are charged with endangering the welfare of a child after two incidents.

On Nov. 5, police were dispatched to an area of Arlington Street for a child roaming in the street wearing nothing but a diaper. A second call to police then said the child was at Santander Bank on East Broad Street, just east of the railroad tracks. Information of the child’s residence was given to police at the scene and the child was returned home.

Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Hazle Street on Nov. 15 for the same incident; a child roaming the streets with nothing but a diaper. Police were able to locate a few witnesses. Police noted that the temperature at the time of the second incident was 24 degrees.

Do the same thing to these so called parents - make them walk around in nothing but a diaper during those temps! Then lock them up and NEVER let them have that innocent child again!

I'm curious to know why the child was returned home, especially since this happened twice in ten days? It's not bad enough that the child wondering the streets is young enough to still be in diapers, but it was below freezing on at least one of those days. Where were these so-called parents and what was so much more important than the caring for their child. I'm hoping Children and Youth have since been called and are involved in this case.
