Two fire departments team up with food truck festival
Do you like to try new foods or just enjoy a variety of options without having to travel all over the country?
If so, American Fire Company No. 1 in Lansford and Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1 have an event that will definitely tickle your taste buds.
The two fire departments have teamed up to create the first Food Truck Festival and Meat Raffle, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday behind the Lansford firehouse on East Bertsch Street.
The idea of marrying meat with a firefighting fundraiser was born because of the need for finding new ways to raise money to keep the fire departments operational.
“Nowadays, fire departments have to be creative at fundraising to survive,” said Nesquehoning Hose Company fire Chief John McArdle. “Both Lansford and Nesquehoning fire departments have teamed up in various fundraising events together. We are hoping that this new venue is successful and that the people support our cause.”
Lansford fire Chief Joseph Greco said that with volunteer numbers dwindling, teaming up to bring the community a tasty fundraiser was the way to go.
“In discussing fire calls, we always look at our neighboring fire departments for assistance, but why not do something similar with fundraising?” Greco said. “Numerous discussions ensued, and this event was the result.”
So far, confirmed food trucks that will be there on Saturday include Cactus Blue, Take A Taco, Tripps BBQ, Vince’s Cheesesteaks, Stuffed to the Grills, Atomic Hogs Pit BBQ, Pop’s Original Screamer Sauce, Kona Ice, Kowalonek’s Kielbasy Shop, Gimbel Farms, The Suep Kitchen, Rolling Dough Pizza, Nicki’s Eats & Sweets and Parryville Fire Co.
In addition, there will be vendors, including Paparazzi with Tanya and Pop’s Kettle Corn; a meat raffle from 3 to 5 p.m. and live entertainment by Colin Jones and Jason Kuhla from 5 to 8 p.m.
Greco said that the fire companies are hoping this can become an annual event.
