Two jailed after stealing dirt bike in Franklin Twp.

Published December 23. 2019 01:03PM

Two men are in custody after they stole a dirt bike from a Franklin Township home Sunday afternoon.

Township police Chief Jason Doll said the incident occurred at 2:45 p.m. at a home on Rock Street.

Doll said police were called for a report of two men who showed up at the property, entered the shed, and removed a dirt bike.

He said the men were confronted by a juvenile on scene, but continued to load the dirt bike and left the scene.

Doll said an officer saw the vehicle at the Carbon Mini Mart in Lehighton, at which time it was stopped.

He said inside the vehicle were Michael Coleman, 40, of Franklin Township, and Anthony Riggio, 36, of Lehighton.

Doll said both men were taken into custody, and the dirt bike was recovered.

He said Coleman was arraigned, while Riggio had a warrant.

Doll said both men are being charged with burglary and theft.

They are incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility.

not sure how true it is but someone said the juvenile was smart enough to take pictures of the thieves
Everyone jumps to conclusions right away, saying these guys should get a job, calling them lowlifes. Yes what they did was wrong, but that is far from the truth about at least one of them. They got mixed up in a mess and is now paying the consequences. Has a job, home, wife and kids. I heard somewhere about him playing machines? Is he spending your money? Then I find that none of your business. Comments like that are uncalled for. I don’t pull the skeletons from your closet and broadcast them but if you would like me to dig in your personal life I can, just as you are doing. Thing is, I wouldn’t waste my time minding your business, you should be doing that yourself!
At age 36 and 40, these "men" are old enough to know better than to steal a motorcycle. And to do it despite someone challenging them is brazen. It sounds like you know one of the perpetrators and are attempting to fashion a defense of sorts against public persecution. IMO, the term "lowlife" is not necessarily out of place - in fact, it seems appropriate. Just because someone has a wife, home and kids does not make them a good person. If he has a job, why is he stealing a motorcycle? These two deserve the humiliation - maybe it will cause them to think twice next time.
