Two killed in turnpike crash in Luzerne Co.
Two New Jersey residents were killed in a one-vehicle crash along the northeast extension of the turnpike in Luzerne County on Tuesday. State police at the Pocono barracks said the crash occurred at 3:20 p.m.
Troopers said Laszlo Bencze, 80, of Shamong, New Jersey, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer southbound when he lost control. The vehicle traveled across the left lane with the left front corner of the Trailblazer hitting the center concrete barrier. After impact the vehicle traveled southwest across the right lane and west berm. The front then struck the guide rail and a rock fall fence off the west berm. It then rolled over onto its left side before coming to rest on its roof.
Two passengers in the vehicle, Ileana Molinar, 71, and Gyula Molnar, 81, both of Roebling, New Jersey, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger, Olga Bencze, 80, were injured and taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Township, Luzerne County.
