Vehicle hits Kresgeville auto shop

A vehicle crashed into a Kresgeville towing and mechanic auto shop early Friday morning.

At approximately 4 a.m. Friday, a Toyota RAV4 drove through the garage doors of B.W. Borger’s Service Center located at 601 Interchange Road, Kresgeville.

Security cameras recorded the driver crossing an intersection from Silver Spring Boulevard across Interchange Road directly before smashing into the business.

“Based on what the security cameras picked up and the police report, the driver may have been going as fast as 75 mph. The road he was driving on before crashing has a 45 mph speed limit,” longtime business owner Barry Borger said.

The collision caused extensive damage to the front garage workshop doors, as well as damaging a parked tow truck and auto supplies.

“The driver hit a flatbed, may have totaled my tow truck, hit tires, wheels and a lot of other miscellaneous items we store in the workshop,” Borger said.

“The impact caused a concrete brick to fly through the doorway and crash into the wall of the reception directly where I sit at my desk.”

Thankfully, no one was in the business at the time of the crash.

The driver was transported by emergency medical services to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono. The complete extent of the injuries sustained are unknown at this time, but the driver was documented as possibly having a broken nose.

“The police reported that the driver was bleeding from his face after the accident. The crashed Toyota is totaled and the driver seat had a lot of blood on it,” Borger said.

The crash happened at an inconvenient time for Borger in his personal life, who has put his business up for sale.

“I’m 75 years old, and after 42 years of business, I’m hoping to finally retire,” says Borger.

“I’m hoping to sell everything if I can; the business and the property.”

When asked about Borger’s retirement plans, he said, “Travel. I’d love the opportunity to have some time to travel the country out west to start. I’ve only traveled once before, out west with my parents when I was younger. I’d love to be able to see the Grand Canyon and the sequoias (Sequoia National Park).”
