Vehicle impounded after DUI in Lehighton

Published December 30. 2019 08:30AM

The driver of a vehicle that state police at the Lehighton barracks stopped for a Motor Vehicle Code violation at 2:25 a.m. Dec. 27 at the intersection of East Penn Street and Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East in Lehighton, was suspected to be driving under the influence of a controlled substance but police said he refused to give consent to toxicology testing and also denied a request by police to search his vehicle.

Police said the driver, whose name police did not release, was found to be in possession of a suspected controlled substance. When he refused to allow police to search the interior of his 2015 Toyota Tacoma, police had it towed to the barracks, where it will be stored until a search warrant is obtained, police said.

Police said they wanted the operator to submit to toxicology testing to determine the intent of his impaired status but he refused to do so. They said the charges will be filed pending the laboratory test results with regard to the seized suspected controlled substances and any further evidence found in the vehicle.
