Vehicle stop leads to arrest

Published July 11. 2018 08:50AM

A vehicle stop in Schuylkill County on Friday led to the arrest and incarceration of a wanted person.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said troopers stopped a 2001 Subaru about 5:59 p.m. at the Sharp Mountain Plaza along the Gordon Nagle Trail (Route 901), in Pottsville, for an expired registration.

The driver was identified as Esvin Diaz-Perez, 26, of Pottsville. A further check revealed that Diaz-Perez was an illegal immigrant with an active extradition warrant out of the Manatee County, Florida, sheriff’s office for lewd and lascivious battery.

Diaz-Perez was charged with arrest prior to requisition and arraigned before on-call District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah. He was placed in the county prison after failing to post $100,000 straight cash bail.

Troopers said Manatee County sheriff’s office is making arrangements to extradite Diaz-Perez back to Florida.
