Volunteers needed to prepare taxes for AARP
Carbon County’s AARP Foundation Tax-Aide group is looking for more volunteers for the upcoming tax season.
Tax-Aide offers free tax filing help to anyone, especially those 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service. All taxes are prepared on AARP-supplied computers using TaxSlayer software. Tax-Aide volunteers receive training and support during January and will pass a test to receive IRS certification.
In Carbon County, taxes are prepared from Feb. 1 through April 16, 2018. All five sites are open from 9 a.m. to noon, one day a week.
Locations and weekdays are:
Monday: Palmerton Senior Center, 501 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.
Tuesday: Lehighton Recreation Center, 243 S. Eighth St., Lehighton.
Wednesday: Beaver Meadows Borough Hall, 100 E. Broad St., Route 93, Beaver Meadows; and Penn Forest Township Hall, 2010 Route 903, Penn Forest Township.
Thursday: Gilbert Salem UCC, corner of Route 209 and Long Mountain Road, Gilbert.
There is also a need for volunteer client facilitators, who provide technical and management assistance as well as interpreters. These volunteers get policy and procedures training and are not required to take the tax test.
