W. Penn to hold the line on tax rate
West Penn Township intends to pass next year’s budget without a tax increase.
On a 2-0 vote, supervisors agreed Monday morning to advertise the 2018 budget with no tax increase. Board Chairman Jim Dean was absent.
The $2.3 million spending plan would leave the millage rate at 4.75 mills.
Supervisors plan to grant the final budget adoption next month.
This year, residents also saw no increase in their municipal tax rates.
However, as part of that budget, the board agreed to increase the local service tax from $10 to $52, which only affected people who are employed in the township.
Raising the tax was expected to generate about an additional $23,000 for the township.
