Walnutport advertises budget with no tax increase

Published November 10. 2018 06:14AM

Walnutport residents won’t have to dig any deeper into their wallets to pay their municipal tax rate next year.

Borough council unanimously agreed on Thursday to advertise the 2019 budget with no tax increase.

Councilwoman Jennifer Wentz said next year’s spending plan shows the budget is about $6,400 to $6,500 on the plus side.

At council’s workshop last week, Wentz said the borough was faced with a $14,000 shortfall.

However, she said $10,000 of that was a sinking fund for the next round of a police car for the police department.

Final budget adoption is scheduled to take place next month.

If council were to approve next year’s budget with no tax increase, it would leave the tax rate at 18.75 mills.

In December, council approved this year’s budget with no tax increase.
