Walnutport asked to come up with strategic plan

Published March 22. 2019 10:38AM

Walnutport has been urged to develop a multiyear strategic plan.

Borough grant coordinator Michael Wentz made the suggestion recently to borough council.

Wentz suggested that the borough come up with a five- or 10-year plan.

“We did this years ago; we did a plan and we surpassed it,” Wentz said. “I think we need to do something to come up with major projects.”

Wentz also told council it may want to consider applying for Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funding through the state.

The program distributes highly competitive sums of money for regional projects.

Wentz noted that neighboring Lehigh Township was previously awarded $1 million.

In September, the township’s board of supervisors announced that it received the funding toward a proposed new township public works building.

However, Wentz noted that the borough would have to come up with a match.

“It’s something to think about,” he said.
