Walnutport checks into police vehicle

Could Walnutport Police Department add another vehicle to its fleet?

Walnutport Borough police Chief Pete Wayda informed borough council last week that Coopersburg Borough has a 2014 Ford Police Interceptor up for bid.

Wayda said the vehicle only has 25,000 miles on it, and would replace his department’s oldest unit, a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.

He said the 2010 would become a municipal vehicle used by all departments.

The auction runs through the end of this month.

Councilwoman Jennifer Wentz said the borough has $10,000 set aside in a sinking fund.

Wayda said while the vehicle isn’t something the police department needs, it would help.

The department recently took possession of a brand-new 2019 Ford Police Interceptor SUV.

Wayda said that vehicle came from Kovatch in Nesquehoning and cost $42,187.

The borough previously received a grant for $31,440 from Sands Casino gaming money.

Wayda said the department currently has four vehicles in its fleet.
