Walnutport expects to keep tax rate in check
Residents who live in Walnutport shouldn’t have to sweat it out when it comes to next year’s municipal tax rate.
At least, not based on discussion concerning the 2019 spending plan at borough council’s workshop on Thursday.
Councilwoman Jennifer Wentz said that at present, the borough is faced with a $14,000 shortfall.
However, Wentz said $10,000 of that is a sinking fund for the next round of a police car for the police department.
“I don’t think $14,000 is too shabby. You know where $10,000 is,” Wentz said. “If we need it, we need it; if we don’t, we don’t.”
After the meeting, Wentz said a tax hike is unlikely for next year.
Council is scheduled to vote on the preliminary budget when it meets at 7 p.m. Nov. 8.
Final budget adoption is expected to take place next month.
If council were to approve next year’s budget with no tax increase, it would leave the tax rate at 18.25 mills.
In December, council approved this year’s budget with no tax increase.
