Walnutport to host third annual candy cane hunt
It’s that time of year when Walnutport youth with a sweet tooth are in luck.
Hosted by Northern Lehigh Recreation, the third annual candy cane hunt will be held from 5-6 p.m. Saturday.
Thousands of candy canes will be hidden around the Walnutport playground and park, with several canes marked as winners to be redeemed for a new holiday toy.
This year’s event comes with an added twist — it will be held in the dark with flashlights, according to Mike Kukitz, executive director, Northern Lehigh Recreation.
Kukitz said participants are encouraged to bring their own flashlights to this fun-filled family event.
“First and foremost, the three municipalities coming together is what’s making this happen,” Kukitz said. “It’s Christmastime, and there’s a magic feeling in the air.”
Kukitz said there will also be candy, toys, music, hot chocolate, cookies and more.
“It’s a fun event that’s very well attended, and we always have a surprise or two,” he said. “We expect a great turnout, weather dependent.”
Kukitz said there were over 500 participants in each of the event’s first two years.
“It’s become an annual tradition,” he said. “We like doing different and new things.”
