Walnutport light upgrades to cost more
Upgrades to Walnutport’s main traffic light will cost more than anticipated.
Borough grant coordinator Michael Wentz informed borough council on Thursday that C.M. High Inc. hit a snag while doing the work.
In December, council awarded a quote to the Myerstown firm in the amount of $12,150, for upgrades to the traffic light at Best Avenue and Main Street.
“We are still on the plus side of the grant,” Wentz said. “They found that the loop sensors are bad.”
Borough engineer Jason Newhard said that in doing the work, it was discovered that the northbound Route 145 loop sensor isn’t working.
As a result, Newhard said it would likely cost an additional $5,500.
The borough has been awarded a $25,000 Green Light – GO program 50/50 matching grant.
Wentz previously said the borough was awarded the grant two years ago through PennDOT to update the light.
The light will receive new light heads, a new controller and control box and emergency pre-emption.
The control panel is being replaced by an insurance claim.
