Several members of Walnutport’s police force were recognized for their work in the line of duty.

At Thursday’s borough council meeting, Sgt. Jason Nothstein and patrol officer Scott Ledo received police commendations from borough police Chief Pete Wayda.

Wayda lauded both Nothstein and Ledo for their actions while responding to a suspicious male complaint on Jan. 22 in which they conducted a lawful traffic stop and ended the encounter by removing a loaded gun from the operator who was not licensed to carry a firearm.

In addition, Nothstein was also praised for his actions while responding to a suicidal female on June 4, 2018, in which he deployed his Taser to prevent her from harming herself with a knife wound to her chest.

Wayda said Nothstein’s actions “saved a life.”
