Walnutport seeking applications for full-time officer

Published October 05. 2019 06:43AM

Walnutport Borough Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for a new full-time police officer.

Those interested in the position have until 4 p.m. Oct. 18 to submit their application to the Walnutport Police Department.

A written test will be administered on Nov. 2 at Walnutport Borough Hall, 417 Lincoln Ave.

Last month, council agreed to activate the Civil Service Commission to begin the process of hiring a full-time police patrol officer.

That came after the departure of officer Dean Heffelfinger, who resigned and accepted a full-time position with the Lehigh Township Police Department.

Heffelfinger had been with the Walnutport Police Department since June 2012. He was a full-time officer for the past three years.

With his departure, Walnutport Police Chief Pete Wayda said the department has three full-time and six part-time officers.
