Walnutport woman given prison term in four criminal cases

A Northampton County woman was sentenced to a county prison term in Carbon County court on Friday after previously pleading guilty in four pending criminal cases.

Shaina Poshefko, 32, of Walnutport, pleaded to one count each of driving under the influence, criminal trespass, as a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On the DUI count she was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500 and her license was suspended for 18 months. On the criminal trespass count she was sentenced to serve three to 23 months in prison; on the possession count two to 23 months, and on the paraphernalia charge one to 12 months, with all terms running concurrently.

Poshefko was arrested on the DUI charge on May 27, 2018, by Lansford police along Bertsch Street. A test revealed a 0.21 BAC and also the presence of a controlled substance.

She was arrested on the trespass count on June 3, 2018, by Nesquehoning police at a residence along West Columbia Street. The paraphernalia charge stems from an incident on Aug. 28, 2018, filed by Nesquehoning police. She was arrested by Lansford police on May 30, 2018, on the possession of a controlled substance charge.

Serfass also ordered her to get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, render 100 hours of community service when paroled, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

She was given total credit of 20 days on the charges. She began the jail term at 9 a.m. on Sept. 23.
