Weissport considers digitizing ordinances

Published January 16. 2018 11:44AM

Weissport Borough Council is grappling with whether or not to digitize its ordinances.

During Monday night’s council meeting, borough Treasurer Bill Donovan said he received a quote of $195 per year for the service.

“We would have to take all of the ordinances and scan them and then upload them into the system,” Donovan said. “From there, anyone with an access code could view them.”

Some council members said they didn’t feel the $195 annual payment was worth it if the borough’s staff was doing all the work.

“The point was for the residents to be able to access the ordinances,” council President Arland Moyer Sr. said. “We may be better served with a website for them to access.”

Council Vice President Brenda Leiby said many of the borough’s ordinances are outdated anyway.

“We need to update them, but any ordinance that we change costs money to get that done,” she said.

Moyer also filled out council’s committees for 2018 on Monday night.

Joining Moyer on the streets and flood, and property committees will be Greg May. Linda Schoenberger and Leiby will be on the parks and recreation committee. May and Tom Ketchledge will be on the police and safety committee.
