Weissport Borough Council is looking to stop vandalism in the borough park.

Councilman Thomas Ketchledge raised concerns about vandalism in the park, and requested permission to investigate costs to install video cameras with night vision capability.

Ketchledge said that it would be “in the best interest” of the borough to monitor the park.

Solicitor Greg Mousseau said that camera footage would “absolutely be a tool to help law enforcement.”

Ketchledge will present a quote for camera installation at the next council meeting.

Vice President Brenda Leiby, presiding over the meeting, thanked officer Matthew Williams for his excellent service to the community.

She said that he “really goes above and beyond.”

The borough provided Williams with $100 to purchase Halloween candy and glow necklaces to distribute during trick or treat as an outreach effort “get to know the community better.”

• The borough received quotes to replace two doors and a roof at the borough office. Since the expenses were not planned into this year’s budget, council discussed funding options. They are considering securing a loan to cover the costs, and Mousseau will determine the legality and parameters of this option.

• The borough sent a letter to people feeding birds and attracting rats. They were invited to the meeting but did not attend. Williams will make a welfare check to remind them of code violations related to attracting vermin.
