Legion meeting
The West End Memorial American Legion Post 927 will hold its monthly meeting at 7 today.
Volunteer calls
West End Volunteer Fire Company Chief Don Zipp reports that the company responded to 42 calls for service in June. That brings the total for the first half year to 279.
Seniors lunches
The Chestnuthill Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church’s Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville as part of Monroe County Seniors, can order Swiss steak for next week Wednesday’s meal.
The posting for this Friday came too late to be included.
OTOH visit
Operation Touch of Home is scheduled to be at Vet Fest in Bethlehem, honoring all who served. It is taking place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Steel Stacks Art Quest Center, 101 Founders Way in Bethlehem.
Pantry open
The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the Community Center on Kunkletown Road Saturday.
Clients are asked to bring a photo ID and their own bags.
Friday farewell
A total of 30 adults/youth Effort UMC joined by folks from Grace UMC are leaving the area Sunday for a REACH Workcamp in New Berlin, New York.
They will be there for a week of work days and spirit-lifting events.
Mission week
Salem-St. Paul Youth, Kresgeville, are doing local mission work this summer. From Sunday through Thursday the youth will upgrade the church playground and dedicate it to the late church member Janet Serfass. They will also help homeless families with supper and a sleepover at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
Youth leaders Debbie Obeid and Tim Hinton will also lead Bible studies based on the week’s theme: Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord.
On Wednesday it is a potluck supper with church family and friends, followed by an outdoor praise service at 7 p.m. and Friday is a fun day at Knoebels.
Salem pastors
Several pastors will be filling the pulpit at Salem UCC in Gilbert during the next six weeks. This Sunday and next week Sunday Kaye Lentz will serve.
Church anniversary
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Sunday.
The celebration begins with a special Mass at 11 a.m. with Bishop Bambera, a procession with the church statue of the Blessed Mother followed by a free picnic for all to enjoy.
Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs for the picnic.
Two events
The American Legion Riders have its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the American Legion Post 927, Route 209 and Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert.
Riders contribute to veterans, the community and enjoy riding.

At 1 p.m., the Jeanne Gambino memorial services will take place. It includes a tree dedication at 1 p.m. and a remembrance ceremony at 2 p.m., with a potluck luncheon following the ceremony in the main hall.

Church picnic
McMichaels UMC will celebrate church family with a picnic at the Chestnuthill Township Park this Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m.
Families are reminded to bring chairs and the food for which they signed up. Music will be provided by Dennis and his group.
Kunkletown VBS
St. Matthew’s UCC Church in Kunkletown VBS begins Monday. Classes begin at 9 a.m. and go to noon.
The theme is Splash Canyon.
Friday’s ending event will be held in the grove from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Signing class
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is again beginning a sign language class (ASL). The schedule begins Monday. Class time is from 2 to 3 p.m. each Monday in July.

Cornerstone VBS
Time Travelers is the theme for Cornerstone VBS in Kresgeville beginning Monday. Registration should be made now at www.myvbs.org/cornerstonecommunitychurch or by calling the church at 610-681-3534.
Classes are free and open to children age 4 to beginning sixth grade in the fall.
Cornerstone is located in Kresgeville next to the Pleasant Valley Elementary School on Polk Township Road.
Blood drive
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Donations of blood and Power Red will be accepted.
Korean Vets
Post 927 in Gilbert will host the Annual Korean War Vets picnic for local Korean War Veterans on Tuesday, beginning at noon. It is sponsored by KWVA Chapter 109.

Phoebe Snow
The Heritage Center of the Western Pocono Community Library will feature the Story of Phoebe Snow with Kendrick Bisset at 6:30 p.m. July 11.

WEPOSC meets
The West End Park & Open Space Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. July 11, at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.
Family Fun Night
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church has announced it will not have normal Wednesday evening services during the month of July. However, there will be special Family Fun Night activities, including a waterslide at the church from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 11. Parents must stay with their children.
The same is true for the Family Fun Night on July 25, which includes kickball and Rita’s Ice, also from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Registration begun
Registration for the Monroe County Youth Field Day being held on Sept. 8 has begun.
The day is a totally free fun-filled day for youth ages 8 to 14 held at Camp Trexler in Jonas.
It includes natural and environmental outdoor activities and wildlife programs.
