Orphan Outreach
The Orphan Outreach Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will be holding its next meeting at 3:30 p.m. today at the church. Interested people may join the group. Call Flannery at 570-350-9652 for more information.
Midweek service
The final Lenten midweek service hosted by five area churches will take place at 6 p.m. today at Salem UCC in Gilbert.
The evening begins with soup being served at 6 p.m. The supper time lasts until 6:45 p.m. and the worship service begins at 7 p.m. The ecumenical choir will practice in between.
Bringing the message is Pastor Suzanne Brooks-Cope.
Effort UMC holds a Lenten study each Wednesday during Lent in Wesley Hall with a time of fellowship from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. with soup and salad. The study is from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. The study is Perseverance: A Long Obedience in the Same Direction. Lenten services follow at 7 p.m.
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will have a Lenten soup and study time at 6 p.m. and a healing service at 7:30 p.m. followed by choir practice at 8:30.
Legion Auxiliary
The Auxiliary of Post 927 is meeting at a new time beginning tonight. Meetings are now at 7 p.m.

PVEN board
The board of directors for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian church on Pilgrim Way in Brodheadsville.
Pastor Suzanne Brooks-Cope will lead the devotions.
WEPOSC meeting
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.
Mission meal
The West End Mission meal will be served at Our Lady Queen of Peace church at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
PVMS concert
The Pleasant Valley Middle School spring band concert in on the calendar for 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Holiday collection
Pleasant Valley Intermediate School library is collecting holiday food for veterans and their families for Easter on behalf of Valor and Paul’s House. It is hoped to receive enough items for about 150 baskets. The deadline for nonperishable food is Friday.
Fourth, fifth and sixth grades have been asked to concentrate on different foods.
Fish & Chips
Salem UCC, Gilbert, will again provide preordered fish dinners of three pieces of fish, french fries, coleslaw and a dessert one can buy extra, this Friday evening.
Dinners must be ordered ahead of time by calling 570-620-1425 any day or 610-681-4733 on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings. Pickup is between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. each Friday. Dessert will be available for a charge.
School board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Seniors menu
The Chestnuthill Seniors, part of Monroe County Seniors, can choose between light fare and standard fare lunches on Wednesdays and Fridays from the menu of Monroe County Seniors.
For Friday the regular fare offers cod caponata, Brussels sprouts, mixed vegetables, an orange and a whole wheat roll.
The lighter fare menu lists peppers, onion and cheese quesadilla, black bean salad, mango pudding and juice.
The regular fare for next Wednesday is meatloaf, butternut squash, peas and carrots, applesauce and a whole wheat roll. The light fare is Italian wrap, broccoli salad, apple, graham crackers and yogurt.
Those eating are asked to call the site manager by 11 a.m. the day before at 570-242-6770.
Activities on Friday include a presentation on bird houses and Zumba with Fernanda.
Next Wednesday, it will be Kelly and Ryan and a yoga stretch with Debbie.
The center will not be open on Good Friday, April 19.
Easter egg hunt
Ross Township Park in Saylorsburg is the site for a free Easter egg hunt for children 10 and under at 1 p.m. April 13. The event will include prizes and pictures with the Easter Bunny as well as treats. Those over 18 can participate in a raffle, purchasing tickets before the egg hunt. The drawing will follow the egg hunt’s completion. Must be present to win.
Table Tennis
East Stroudsburg University and West End Park & Open Space Commission are hosting a Table Tennis for Kids Event at the Chestnuthill Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville on Friday.
The event is for ages 8-12. There are limited spots. This event has two one-hour sessions and each is limited to four children per session. Sessions begin at either 5:30 p.m. for 8- to 10-year-olds and 7 p.m. for 11 to 12-year olds.
No prior knowledge of the game is needed; beginners are welcome. Equipment will be provided. There are a few openings yet.
Preregistration is required by calling 570-992-9733 or emailing bkozen@weposc.org. One must supply name, age and skill level of the child. Session size and times may be altered depending on registrations.
Maintenance workshop
Homeowner associations and homeowners are encouraged to attend a Dirt and Gravel Road Maintenance Workshop hosted by the Monroe County Conservation District from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. It will include a leisurely pictorial tour of erosion on driveways and how to fix it.
Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
Time will be allotted after the program for attendees’ site-specific questions. Bring photos if available. Space is limited, so call 570-629-3060 now. Limit is four reservations per HOA/POA.
The event is sponsored by the Monroe County Conservation District Dirt Gravel and Low Volume Road Program.
Art exhibition
Eldred Township Community Center, on Kunkletown Road, is hosting the third annual art exhibition, Arts in Eldred, this weekend. It will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday.
Works of local artists will be on exhibit and will be available for sale.
