Blood drive
Cornerstone Community Church is slated to host an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. today.
The church is on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville. Donate either regular blood or the Power Red.
Legion Auxiliary
American Legion Post 927 Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. today at the Post home in Gilbert.
The LAMA Pocono Chapter meets at 10 a.m. Sunday and the PTSD Support Group gathers at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Girlfriends meet
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church’s group, Girlfriends, will meet at 7 p.m. today in the church.
Children can be dropped off for either Zero — One, Royal Rangers or Girls Ministries.
PVEN Board
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network’s board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
School Board
The Pleasant Valley Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Final help
This Thursday, from 9 a.m. to noon, is the final time Salem UCC, Gilbert, will host the AARP free tax assistance volunteers this year.
If Pleasant Valley Schools have a two-hour delay, the hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to noon.
Old-Tyme meeting
The Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment association will have a membership meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The club’s consignment sale is set for April 21 at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.
Bingo night
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host bingo night at beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Seniors menu
The Chestnuthill Senior Center, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, is open on Wednesdays and Fridays. The menu choice for Friday’s hot meal is Waldorf chicken salad and for next Wednesday it is a pork chop.
Anyone wishing to have that for lunch those days must call the site manager at 570-242-6770. There is a suggested donation.
A special program on Lyme disease will be presented at the Chestnuthill Center at 10:30 a.m. April 18 by Tamara Higgins Cian from the Monroe County State Health Center.
Art exhibit
Eldred Township Community Center will host its second annual art exhibit this weekend. The event will not only be showcasing local artists, including Pleasant Valley High School students, but there will be a variety of mediums, such as acrylics, water colors, textiles, sculpture, gourds and paper crafts.
There will also be demonstrations of various techniques throughout the show. Items will be available for sale and there will be a silent auction.
Light refreshments will be served 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The silent auction will conclude Saturday afternoon.
Breakfast set
Michaels UMC, on White Church Road in McMichaels, will hold its donation-only monthly breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday.
Park cleanup
The West End Regional Park cleanup at 578 Evergreen Hollow Road, Brodheadsville is set for 9 a.m. Saturday.
Gloves, vests and bags are provided.
Trail maintenance will also be done to remove fallen trees from the winter storms that block some of the trails.

Pantry open
The Supplemental Food Resource Center of Effort UMC, serving families in need in the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville, will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
A valid driver’s license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is needed.
Permits due
Polk Township’s new solid waste permits are now available to purchase at the office. They are due by April 15. They can be purchased with cash or a check.
Carvings sale
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host Little Bethlehem Christian group as represented by the Al Sahouri family.
Little Bethlehem Christian is a group that represents 200 Christian families who live in Bethlehem the Holy Land, and make their living as wood carvers.
On Saturday and Sunday the group represented by the Al Sahouri family, Ghassan and Siham, who will display a collection of hand carving olivewood religious items. They are also for sale. One may look at said items after Mass and purchase them.
The profit goes to support Christianity in the land of Christ.
Pasta benefit
On Sunday the American Legion in Gilbert is holding a Pasta with a Purpose event from 1 to 7 p.m. It is a benefit for Jeanne Gambino.
The requested donation per person includes all one can eat pasta, meatballs and soda.

Women’s club
The Western Pocono Women’s Club will meet Monday at Effort UMC. It includes fun art projects. One member will demonstrate how to make a cloth wreath. Another will show how to make greeting cards.
In addition, The meeting will entail having club elections for 2018-19 as well as sign-ups for all club jobs for the upcoming program year.
Polk supervisors
The Polk Township board of supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the municipal building on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville.
Shawl ministry
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl ministry will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Anyone who knits or crochets or would like to learn, may join.
And if one can refer someone to the group as being in need of a prayer shawl, members will try to meet that need.
Chestnuthill
The Chestnuthill Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the township municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
The Planning Commission is slated to meet the next evening at 6:30 p.m. April 18.
AWSOM needs
The Western Pocono Lioness Club shares that a current list for the Animal Welfare Society of Monroe County includes leashes, collars, toys, blankets, cleaning, kitty litter, kitty toys, towels, paper towels and sheets.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will host a community luncheon will take place on at 12:30 p.m. April 18 in McCawley Hall.
Submarine vets
The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meets regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines.
This month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 18.

Effort UMC is holding its semiannual chicken barbecue dinner from 1 to 7 p.m. April 21. Take out only from 1 p.m. Dining-in begins at 3:30 p.m.

Opening Day
West End Little League’s Opening Day is scheduled for April 21.
The League says it will include games and prizes, raffles and food and team and individual pictures will be taken.
