Card cooperation
Seven local Girl Scout troops and local service organization, Western Pocono Women’s Club, met to make Christmas cards for the military.
Members from the Western Pocono Women’s Club and West End Girl Scout Troops 50818, 50949, 50986, 50712, 50814, 50812 and 50983 met at Pleasant Valley Middle School Cafeteria the first Saturday this month. More than 700 Christmas cards were made for the military in this joint community project.
Troop leaders and members from the Western Pocono Women’s Club assisted the 25 scouts in making the cards.
The cards will be sent to veteran hospitals and military bases in the United States before Christmas.
Last year the Western Pocono Women’s Club and Girl Scout troops made more than 1,200 cards. They were sent to the Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, American Legion in Gilbert, Tobyhanna Army Depot, American Red Cross, troops of local friends and relatives, and Valor Clinic in Jonas to help brighten the holidays.
Cards were also signed by local residents at the Chestnuthill Township Community Day in September.

Community supper
Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville is hosting a free community supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Altar & Rosary
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Altar & Rosary group will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church in Gilbert.
Plan Commission
The Chestnuthill Township Planning Commission is slated to meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the township municipal complex in Brodheadsville.
Eldred Supervisors
The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the municipal building in Kunkletown.
The Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, also at the municipal building in Kunkletown.
Submarine Vets
The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meets regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines, Pennsylvania. Zion Seniors
Zion Lutheran’s Senior citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church complex in Brodheadsville.
W.E.L.L. meets
The West End Little League has a League meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
Opening Day is set for Saturday.
Spirit Day
Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is celebrating Spirit Day on Friday.
Seniors menu
The Monroe Seniors meeting at Zion Lutheran next Friday and the following week Wednesday can order the following hot meals for those two days: chef’s salad with chicken, whole wheat roll, mandarin orange, delight gelatin and a package of graham crackers for Friday, and whole wheat noodles, Swedish meatballs, peas & carrots, whole wheat noodles, fruit cocktail/orange juice for next Wednesday.
Orders must be place by 11 a.m. the day before with the site manager at 570-242-6770.
A lighter fare menu is also available.
