Ross cleanup

Ross Township is having its spring cleanup Friday and Saturday.

Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. both days. It will be held at the rear of the municipal building on Anchorage Road.

Trash items being accepted include, some with a fee for processing: metal, tires, automobile batteries, mattresses and appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers-empty, of course; carpets, furniture, and bikes; general trash.

Bingo night

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a bingo night at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Chestnuthill Township Park. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The evening will include specials, pull tabs, door prizes and more.

Dual event

McMichaels UMC is having a clothing and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and an uplifting and fun entertainment at 5 p.m. with refreshments. It is free, but donations will be accepted. There will be food and drink during intermission.

Old-Tyme event

The Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment Association will have a consignment sale on Saturday at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.

Rummage sale

Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, will hold a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A $3 bag sale will be held between noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Chicken barbecue

Effort UMC is holding its semiannual chicken barbecue dinner fundraiser from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Take out only from 1 p.m.; dining in begins at 3:30 p.m.

There is a cost.

Spaghetti supper

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a spaghetti dinner and silent auction from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Opening day

West End Little League’s opening day is scheduled for Saturday.

It will include games and prizes, raffles and food as well as team and individual pictures being taken.

Give & Take Day

A free PA Earth Day activity will take place at the Monroe Campus of Northampton Community College Route 715 in Tannersville. It is the Close the Loop’s 10th Annual Give & Take Day on Saturday and is for Monroe County residents only.

Other events happening are: Tire Amnesty — Monroe County residents can drop off up to eight passenger tires (no cut tires will be accepted); E-Cycling collection — Monroe County residents can drop off TVs/computers up to eight items total.

The site www.mcearthday.org lists other exciting things that will be happening, including exhibitors, workshops, live music, guest speakers and more.

Poker run

Operation: Touch of Home is having its second Poker Run on Sunday, as sponsored by the American Legion Riders Chapter 927. There will also be a Tricky Tray at the event to help the group raise funds to ship its care packages to deployed troops overseas.

Registration is at 9 a.m. with the first open departure at 9:30 a.m. and the last ride out at 11:30 a.m.

A cookout begins at noon, and the Tricky Tray, etc. begins at 3 p.m.

Youth-led service

The youth of Zion Lutheran Church will lead the 10:30 a.m. service on Earth Day, Sunday.

Zion also offers a Saturday 5 p.m., informal, spoken service and an 8 a.m. service on Sunday.

Community supper

A community Sunday supper will be served at Our Lady Queen of Peace church from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Volunteer Week

On Monday, National Volunteer Week begins. The possibilities for being a volunteer are endless.

Eldred tax office

The tax collector’s office will be closed on Tuesday. The office will reopen at 1 p.m. April 26.

Knit & Crochet

The Knit & Crochet group at Zion Lutheran will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Newcomers are welcome.

Lioness meeting

The Western Pocono Lioness Club is scheduled for a regular meeting Tuesday at Kinsley’s ShopRite in Brodheadsville.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m.

The guest speaker will be from AWSOM.

Animal League

The monthly meeting of the Monroe Animal League will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Eastern Monroe County Library, Route 611/North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg. For more information call 570-421-7775.

Craft/Gift Fair

A craft/gift fair has been announced for April 29 at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. Vendors are wanted. There are both indoor and outdoor spaces available.

Kunkletown concert

St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown is hosting The O’Donnells in a Country Gospel Concert at 7 p.m. April 27 at 102 Church Road.

There is a requested minimum donation for this fundraiser. Call 610-381-2442 for more information.

Roast beef dinner

St. Peters UMC, Route 115, Saylorsburg, is hosting its roast beef dinner from 3:30 to 7 p.m. April 28. Takeouts are available until 5:30 p.m. For ticket prices, call the church at 570-992-7311. Children 5 and under eat for free.

The meal is served family-style and includes roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, glazed carrots, coleslaw, green beans, dinner roll, beverage and dessert.

Special walk

The invitation is extended for folks to join Superhero Brayden and the Wunder family in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis on Saturday, May 5, at Cedar Crest College in Allentown. Brayden is the grandson of Dan and Wanda Wunder, members of St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown.

The Wunders say that last year there was a great turnout from St. Matthew’s and that having another strong army fighting that disease would be most meaningful to them.
