Rock painting
The Western Pocono Community Library has added a second Wednesday for the adult Rock Painting Program, beginning in May.
It will now be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of the month. All supplies will be provided.

Lions meet
The Western Pocono Lions Club is meeting Thursday due to Holy Week changing the club’s schedule.
The club’s board of directors meets at 6 p.m. and the whole group meets at 6:30 p.m. at Cherry’s in Kresgeville.
Mission meal
The West End Mission meal will be served at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Nashville stars
St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown will welcome Nashville stars The O’Donnells for a country gospel concert beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The group includes Darryl O’Donnell with vocals and guitar, Julie O’Donnell with vocals, Klinton O’Donnell on keyboard and vocals, the West End’s own Randy Cramer on fiddle, Ric Carhart on bass, and Eddie Long on steel guitar.

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Administration Building in Brodheadsville.
CJERP meeting
The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk Regional Comprehensive group is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building in Brodheadsville.
Trivia Night
The American Legion Post Home 927 in Gilbert has Trivia Night set for Saturday. It will run from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.

Spring cleanup
Ross Township will have a spring cleanup from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday for its residents at the rear of the municipal building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.
Trash being accepted includes metal, tires, automobile batteries, and mattresses and appliances, including emptied freezers and refrigerators, carpet, furniture and bikes.
There will be a charge for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, and tires.

Tree planting
Monroe County Garden Club will celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at East Stroudsburg University Arboretum, Normal Street and Ransberry Avenue in East Stroudsburg.
Gary in the Morning from Pocono 96.7 will be broadcasting from 6-9 a.m. and state Sen. Mario Scavello, 40th District, will be present. Brodhead Watershed Association will also participate.
At 9:30 a.m. will be a walk-through of the ESU Arboretum, guided by Carol Hillestad from Brodhead Watershed Association and Weston Strubert, president of the ESU Environmental Club, and Emily Rollinson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at ESU.

Effort UMC pantry
The Supplemental Food Resource Center hosted by Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday for those in need from the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville. A valid driver’s license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required.
Earth Day celebration
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Monroe County campus of the Northampton Community College, organizations, businesses and local agencies throughout Monroe County have organized a countywide event to celebrate the conservation successes of the past 20-plus years in Monroe County. Admission is free.
The day includes musical entertainment featuring Renard Cohen, The SteelCreek Duo, Delwin Fiddler Jr. and Woodrow.
There will also be children’s activities, a give and take sponsored by Close the Loop, electronics recycling and tire amnesty sponsored by The Waste Authority, speakers and exhibits highlighting local environmental business, organizations and agencies.
New for 2019 are the 2018 Monroe County Conservation District Teacher of the Year at 11:45 a.m.; Pocono Arts Council Earth Speaks Exhibit from 1 to 3 p.m.; and the Pocono Township Police sponsored National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Movie matinee

Summer Imagination
The Pocono Family YMCA wants kids to Awaken Summer Imagination.
This Saturday, the Pocono Family YMCA will be holding a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active at the annual YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day.
From 1 to 4 p.m. there will be swimming, dancing, arts and crafts, face painting, games, healthy snacks and camping information.

Pocono Avian Research Center holds a morning of migration Birding in the Bog beginning at 7 a.m. These morning birding programs will take place on April 29, May 8 and May 15.

Animal League event

Day of prayer
The Southern Pocono Missions Cluster, of which St. Peter’s United Methodist, Effort United Methodist, Neola United Methodist and McMichaels United Methodist churches are a part, invite the community to The National Day of Prayer Services on May 2.
The services will be held at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. with Pastor Todd Glasmire bringing the message.
This year’s theme is “Love One Another, Just as I have Loved You, John 13:34.”
All are invited to come pray for the nation, the military, the families and personal situations and join the service.
St. Peter’s United Methodist Church is located at 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg, next to the Dollar General.
Benefit sale
Middlecreek Christian Church, 343 Dorshimer Road, Kresgeville, will hold its spring rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 3 and May 4.
A bag sale will be held between noon and 2 p.m. on May 4. Call 570-629-4066 for more information and directions. Breakfast and lunch are offered during the sale for an additional cost.
Eldred cleanup
Eldred Township is having a cleanup day for its residents from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 4.
There will be dumpsters at the Municipal Building, in the rear, for large items such as grills, mattresses, old lawn furniture, etc. and tire collection for recycling with one cost for car tires and another for truck tires.
Electronics recycling will begin on May 1 and continue until Sept. 27. Bring acceptable items to the rear of the building. There will be pallets there to leave recyclables.
In addition, the township is seeking volunteers for litter collection on township roads. Volunteers will meet at the municipal building at 8:30 a.m. and be assigned to a group and a road. Light refreshments will be provided.
Later, the road crew will pick up the bags of litter for disposal.

RSVP help
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at 570-420-3747 is seeking immediate volunteers for a project in the Kunkletown area that will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 4. Volunteers are needed in the following capacities: Documentarian to ensure that all procedures are performed correctly; help families design an emergency escape plan; installers of 10-year smoke detectors provided by the Red Cross; helpers to hand out refreshments or assist installers.

Free yard sale
Ross Township has designated May 4 as its permit-free yard sale. It is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no rain date.
The township leadership wishes everyone a successful day.
Community services fair
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is hosting a Community Services Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 at its location on Route 209 in Sciota.
Many organizations will be present to give out their respective information on services rendered and requirements needed, ranging from The Alzheimer’s Association, Family Promise, Habitat for Humanity to Monroe County Master Gardeners, Sweet Home Primary care and Women’s Resources of Monroe County.
One can talk to the U.S. Census Bureau as it is hiring in the area and gather all kinds of information while being entertained by The Notre Dame Jazz and Rock Band.

Chicken barbecue
Effort UMC is hosting its spring chicken barbecue dinner from 1 to 7 p.m., unless sold out before 7 p.m., on May 4.
The church is both air-conditioned and elevator accessible.
The dinner includes half a barbecued chicken, mashed potato and corn; fresh homemade coleslaw or applesauce; gravy, roll and butter; coffee, tea and cold beverages, and fresh homemade desserts.
The children’s meal, for youngsters from 5 to 12, includes ¼ barbecued chicken and costs half of the adult meal. Children 4 and under may eat for free.
