Move-up day
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, has Royal Rangers and Girls Ministries Move-Up Day on its calendar for 7 p.m. today.
The church office will be closed on Labor Day.
Hoagie sale
St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown is taking orders for hoagies to benefit the ThanksLiving fund. Orders are due by this Sunday.

Busy library
The Western Pocono Community Library has something going on every day.
Friday it’s cardio class at 10 a.m. and Story Time for children with special needs at 1 p.m.
And on Saturday at 9 a.m. it’s board games for all ages/all day, LEGO challenge at 9:30 a.m., ESL class at 10 a.m., and a movie at 1 p.m.
Music time
The Chestnuthill Seniors meeting at Zion Lutheran Church twice a week will have a singalong with Dolores as their fun program this Friday.
On the menu for either the light lunch is the following: tuna salad, cucumber salad, sliced peaches and whole grain bread slices and for the regular meal it is Italian frittata, collard greens, peas, sliced peaches and whole grain bread.
September’s menu has not yet been released by the column’s deadline.
There is a suggested donation per meal.
Attendees need to inform the site manager of their lunch choice by calling by 11 a.m. the day ahead at 570-242-6770.
Trivia time
It’s Trivia Night at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert at 7:30 p.m. Friday. That challenge can continue to midnight.

Holy Communion
McMichaels UMC will include Holy Communion in its 9 a.m. worship service Sunday.
On Sept. 15, the service time goes to 9:30 a.m. and the evening service is at 5 p.m.
Middlecreek Christian
The Sunday morning worship at Middlecreek Church begins at 10:30 a.m.
SAL meeting
The Sons of the American Legion will hold its monthly meeting at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.
Monday Mass
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert will offer Mass at 9 a.m. on Labor Day. The office will be closed and there will be no confessions on Monday evening.
Meeting change
Due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, the Ross Township meeting, usually held on the first Monday of the month, will now be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 9.
Meetings are held at the municipal building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.
RSVPs due
The PVEN will celebrate its one-year anniversary of being in the new facility on Sept. 25 at Mountain Springs Lake Resort in Reeders.

Prayer shawl
Effort UMC’s prayers shawl ministry group will be meeting from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Their work and caring has been appreciated all over the country.
Blood drives
Kunkletown firehouse is the site for an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
If that day is not good, there is another drive at the Jackson Township Fire Hall in Reeders from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 5.
Both drives are collecting whole blood and Power Red.
Open house
The Pleasant Valley Middle School open house will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Chestnuthill meets
The Board of Supervisors for Chestnuthill Township will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building in Brodheadsville.
Two events
On Sept. 4, the Pleasant Valley Elementary open house and book fair for kindergarten and first grade will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.
The same event for second and third grades will follow the next day, Sept. 5, also from 5 to 7 p.m.
Chicken barbecue
Effort UMC is once again offering its chicken barbecue dinner. It will be held Sept. 7, beginning at 1 p.m.
Takeout only starts at 1 p.m. Dine in starts at 3 p.m. Eat in and take outs available through 7 p.m. or until sold out.

Tenth anniversary
The Garden of Giving is celebrating its 10th anniversary at the Garden on Sept. 14, beginning at 4 p.m. with a Farm to Table dining event, presided over by Chef Mike Abate of Pocono Supper Club.

Working together
United Way of Monroe County and Pocono Alliance have merged as of April 1 of this year to become the Pocono Mountains United Way, in an effort to better assist people and families in need in Monroe County through increased collaboration, efficiency and impact.

The 2019 Day of Caring is on Sept. 12, where volunteers can choose where to give their time and talent.
Among the varied places one can serve are the PVEN, Quiet Valley, Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, Women’s Resources, Pocono Family YMCA and others that give volunteers a chance to choose their task.
Find the choices for serving available and the beginning and ending events at Pocono Mountains United Way.
Also upcoming is the eighth annual Dario Belardi Memorial golf tournament fundraiser on Oct. 2 at Hideaway Hills Golf Club in Kresgeville.
