Eldred openings
The Eldred Township Parks and Recreation Committee has openings for residents interested in helping to create and develop our new parks and recreational opportunities.
The Parks and Recreation Committee plans, researches and makes recommendations to the board of supervisors about the future programs and infrastructure of the Parks and Recreation Department.
Anyone having a desire to make a difference in the community and have ideas and energy to contribute is asked to submit a letter of interest to the township at a.velopolcek@eldredtwp.org or the following address: E. Volunteers need not be residents of Eldred Township to serve on the committee.
Blood drives
Cornerstone Community Church, on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville, is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 15. Donate Power Red and regular blood.
People can also donate via the Keystone Miller drive at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville beginning at noon on Aug. 15.
Riverside Rhythm
At 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15, the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville will play host to Riverside Rhythm, a 19-piece big band featuring music of the Swing Era with tunes from the 1920s through the 1940s from favorites like Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Bassie and Les Brown.
The band also performs ballroom selections featuring the fox trot, tango, cha-cha and contemporary hits.
The evening also includes free ice cream.

Help sought
The West End Food pantry in Kunkletown is seeking back to school supplies for an Aug. 17 deadline. Needed are new bookbags, single subject notebooks, file folders, highlighters and erasers.
Tax office hours
The Eldred Township Tax Office will not be open on its regularly scheduled third Saturday of the month in August, Aug. 18. Instead the tax office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 25.
Driver Safety
An AARP Smart Driver 4-hour refresher course is being offered Saturday, Aug. 18, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Chestnuthill Township municipal complex in Brodheadsville.

Dream ride
A benefit to Knoebels Amusement Resort for Dream Come True, Blue Ridge Chapter, is happening Aug. 26.
Registration is at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m.
A donation breakfast sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion at the Legion is included in the registration fee. That fee includes one lunch, one soda at Knoebels, with no substitutions.
Motorcycles and cars are welcome to the scenic ride, taking place rain or shine.
The ride starts at the American Legion and winds through scenic central Pennsylvania and ends at Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg. Free admission and parking will be at the resort. Complimentary ticket book available to military members.

Registration time
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, has announced its registration being open to its Missionettes and Royal Rangers program which will begin Aug. 29 and will be going back to the normal Wednesday evening scheduled activities. Anyone interested in having their child/children be part of the church’s ministries can check out the following information:
Sunbeams, girls and boys ages 1-3 years old; Rainbows, girls and boys ages 3-5 years old; Missionettes, girls in grades K through seventh; and Royal Rangers, boys in grades K through seventh.

The Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville will welcome Bobby Rydell at the library from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, according to the library’s posting.
Not only is he a teen idol, movie star and TV star, but he is the author of “Teen Idol on the Rocks,” a humorous, tragic, inspiring nonfiction book.
Tickets for the event must be purchased by Nov. 9.
The cost of the ticket includes a copy of the book.
