Legion Auxiliary
The West End Memorial American Legion Post 927 is scheduled to meet at 7 tonight.
WEPOSC tonight
The West End Park and Open Space Commission is slated to meet at 6:30 tonight at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.
Mission meal
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will again be the site for a West End mission meal from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
PTO meeting
The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO meeting is on the calendar for 6 p.m. Thursday.
WELL meeting
The West End Little League Board of Directors is slated to meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville. This is a closed meeting. The public meeting will follow next Thursday at the same time and place.
Band concert
The Pleasant Valley Middle School winter band concert is slated for 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The snow date is Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Chestnuthill Seniors
The menu for the Chestnuthill Seniors light meal on Friday is tuna antipasto, marinated vegetables salad, banana, cookies and whole wheat crackers.
The regular meal will be pasta primavera, spinach, carrots, apple.
Next Wednesday’s light meal is BLT wrap, cucumber salad, fruit juice, yogurt, graham crackers.
The regular meal is turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, applesauce, dinner roll.
The reported activities on Friday include a Pocono Cinema trip to see “It’s a Wonderful Life” and a Christmas craft after lunch.
Next Wednesday it is a Christmas singalong and blood pressure screening.
Those attending need to call 570-420-3735 or 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. the day before to give their menu choices.
Effort pantry
The food pantry at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. It will also be open on Dec. 21, but there will be no special menu for either of those days.
Christmas parties
The American Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert will be a busy place this weekend.
The children’s Christmas party, for which reservations are already closed, will take place from 1-4 p.m. At 6 p.m. the Legion Riders/LAMA Christmas party will take place.
And on Sunday it is Post 927 key holding members’ Christmas party for all who signed up by Tuesday.
Cookie sale
McMichaels UMC is holding a cookie sale from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Call 570-992-6742 to reserve a basket.
The church is holding its by-donation-only all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Special visit
Members of Effort UMC are planning to visit Mrs. Bush’s in Kunkletown Saturday to share some music with the residents.
Living Nativity
Faith UMC in Stroudsburg will be providing a live Nativity experience for all to enjoy from the comfort of one’s car. Journey through beautiful illuminated and decorated displays where the real Christmas story will be narrated by people dressed in biblical garb.
Along the journey, see live animals and enjoy carols sung by a choir of angels. This takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. A rain/snow date is planned for Sunday. The church is located at 1160 Clause Drive, Stroudsburg.
Nonperishable donations for the Christ Episcopal Church Food Pantry will be accepted and/or monetary gifts will be for the Faith United Methodist Church St. Stephen’s Fund.
Santa breakfast
Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company, Kresgeville, is having Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, beginning at 7 a.m.
Children’s pageant
St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is featuring its children’s Christmas pageant during the 9 a.m. Sunday worship.
Poinsettias can still be ordered, and paid for, at the church until Sunday.
Fellowship breakfast
Effort UMC’s Trustee Fellowship Breakfast will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday. A freewill donation will be accepted.
Sunday supper
A Sunday supper community meal will be provided at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Gingerbread Night
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting its first Family Gingerbread Night at 5 p.m. Sunday.
The event will include fun for the kids, a photo booth, snacks, hot cocoa, Christmas music, a surprise visit from someone special all while getting to create a gingerbread house to take home with the family.
There is a cost per family, but it includes the gingerbread house kit and all the festivities.

Preregistration set
The 2020-21 kindergarten preregistration phone lines for the Pleasant Valley School District will open Monday. Families should call Joanne in Central Registration at 570-402-1000, ext. 4010.
Invitations for Ready, Set, Learn, a prekindergarten program, will be sent to all families who preregister.
Polk meeting
Polk Township Supervisors are scheduled to approve the 2020 budget at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The regular monthly meeting is to begin at 7 p.m.
Penance service
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, is holding an Advent Penance Service at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Prayer shawl ministry
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl ministry will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
The group’s shawls have traveled across the country and around the world though many have stayed locally.
Newcomers are welcome.
NJHS induction
The Pleasant Valley National Junior Honor Society induction is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Republican Club
The West End Republican Club is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry’s Restaurant in Kresgeville due to the next week being Christmas week.
Those wishing to enjoy dinner before the meeting are asked to come at 6 p.m.
Choral concert
The Pleasant Valley High School winter choral concert is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Chestnuthill meeting
The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
Indoor soccer
West End Soccer League (wesl.us) indoor soccer registration in now open online. It will close Dec. 20.
Wreath making
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a wreath making with Ruthie time at 9 a.m. Dec. 18.
