Children’s party

The Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion is hosting a children’s Christmas party for all children of the community Saturday. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with all kinds of fun and food.

Since space is limited. Sign up by visiting the Legion Post Home in Gilbert and register in the Legion foyer.

And yes, Santa is supposed to drop by.

The auxiliary itself will meet at 6 tonight.

WEPOSC meets

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will meet at 6:30 tonight at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville.

Holiday party

The Western Pocono Lions Club Christmas party will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Cherry’s in Kresgeville. There will be no business meeting in December. Spouses or guests are invited. Attendees will order off the menu.

WELL board

The West End Little League board of directors is slated to meet at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.

Soccer league

West End Soccer League winter indoor registration is open. A convenience fee will be charge for online registration. Just click on the link located on the WESL website. Registration will be open until Friday.

A $10 late registration per age group began on Dec. 5.

The indoor season will begin mid-January. Anyone interested in coaching a team or with questions, can contact bpohlman@wesl.us.

Senior lunches

The Chestnuthill Seniors attending the Monroe County Seniors at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville in the Fellowship Room can enjoy a Christmas party this Friday and for next Wednesday’s lunch order breaded pork chop. Order by 11 a.m. the day before the meeting by calling the site manager at 570-242-6770.

PVEN help

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is seeking volunteers to help give children in the community a brighter Christmas by volunteering with the Angel Tree Christmas Toy Program. The dates are Friday to Dec. 20. Call the PVEN office at 570-992-3136 for specific times, or sign up online at http://www.signupgenious.com/go/4090c4cacac2ba1fa7-angel.

Effort UMC will have its angel tree for PVEN in the narthex so members can bring back unwrapped gifts no later than this Sunday.

Lioness Club

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet for a Christmas luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The club will meet for a regular meeting Tuesday in the community room at Kinsley’s ShopRite in Brodheadsville, with the board meeting at 5:30 p.m.; refreshments at 6 p.m., and the regular business meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The club will visit Getz Personal Care Home in Jonas to bring some Christmas spirit to the residents on Dec. 21.

Christmas cantata

The choirs of Effort UMC and St. Matthews UCC have been practicing for months. The cantata this year, titled “Behold the Savior,” will be held at St. Mathew’s UCC in Kunkletown at 5 p.m. Saturday with a repeat performance at Effort UMC at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Refreshments will be available.

On Sunday, the church will have its Sunday school party and then go caroling around town. Those activities will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Lessons & carols

The Music Ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is offering a ceremony of lessons and carols at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Little Sisters

The parish of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will be welcoming Little Sisters of the Poor on Saturday and Sunday.

The church family is asked to remember their work with elderly generously.

Farm equipment

The next club meeting of the Old Tyme Farm Equipment Association will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert in the new Museum Building.

Republican Club

The West End Republican Club generally meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month. This month, due to the Christmas holidays, the group will meet on the third Tuesday at the Lakeside Restaurant, 5154 South Hamilton Blvd., Saylorsburg.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. this coming Tuesday.

Those wishing to eat before the meeting are asked to arrive by 6 p.m.

LAMA meets

The Latin American Motorcycle Association is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the West End firehouse on Route 715, behind Wawa in Brodheadsville. A social time will follow the meeting.

Sunday special

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, will celebrate the third Sunday of Advent with a regular worship service at 5 p.m. Saturday and then an 8 a.m. worship service on Sunday, followed by the 9:15 a.m. Sunday school. At 10 a.m. the Christmas cantata “God With Us,” will be presented by the Chancel Choir.

After the worship service a Christmas tea will be held. At 1 p.m., following the tea, the sanctuary will be decorated.

Park hike

A West End Regional Park hike will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday led by Carol Hillestad of the Brodhead Watershed Association. The 2-mile challenging to moderate hike will be along the trails at the Regional Park, 578 Evergreen Hollow Road, Brodheadsville. Registration is required. Special service

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran will present a Christmas cantata at the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday with the choir and the children.

Polk Supers

The Polk Township supervisors will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. due to budget approval and the upcoming Christmas holiday.

Prayer Shawl

The Effort UMC Prayer Shawl group will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Newcomers are welcome.

Blood drive

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Chestnuthill Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Honor society

A National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant Valley Middle School in Brodheadsville.

Supers meet

The Chestnuthill Township board of supervisors are slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township municipal meeting on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

PAC/PTO meets

The Pleasant Valley PAC/PTO will meet at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20 at the Pleasant Valley Middle School.

Choral concert

The Pleasant Valley High School Choral Concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20.

Christmas Eve

Various West End churches have announced their respective worship services for Dec. 24, which includes the fourth Sunday of Advent services and Christmas Eve services.

Effort UMC will hold regular worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. and Christmas Eve services at 6, 8 and 11 p.m.

The 8 p.m. service is a traditional candle lighting service and the 11 p.m. service is a Lessons and Carols service.

McMichaels UMC will have a 9 a.m. and a 7 p.m. worship service.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, offers Mass for Advent at 4 p.m. Saturday and at 8 a.m. (bilingual) and at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Masses for Christmas Eve will be at 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Sunday and at 11 a.m. Christmas Day.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will hold regular worship services at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday and then Christmas Eve services at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Salem UCC, Gilbert, will hold a worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday and then a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m.

St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown will Christmas Eve services at 9 a.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. The morning service includes the children’s pageant, called “Christmas Star.” The 7 p.m. service will be a Family Table Country Christmas Service and the 10 p.m. services will be a traditional candlelight service. A nursery, for infants and children up to age 5, will be available for the 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. services on Dec. 24, but not for the 10 p.m. service.

Christmas dinner

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is offering a free Christmas dinner as well as games, music, and pictures with Santa from noon to 5 p.m. Christmas Day.
