WEHA party
The West End Home Association is having its Christmas Eve party, for members and guests who have signed up at the post from 2 to 6 p.m.

Christmas dinner
Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville is hosting a free Christmas dinner from 1 to 4 p.m. on Christmas Day for anyone in need, due to being homeless, having no family or just being alone.
Owner Lobby Tsirigotis says he is doing it for outreach and love. He adds that the restaurant is not open for any business this day nor are any of the employees required to work or even help out. This is being done entirely as volunteer and nonprofit work for the community. It will include his fiancee and her sister and husband.
Offices closed
The Monroe County Aging Office will be closed Dec. 25 for Christmas and Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. Closures begin at 11:45 a.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve days.
Mission meal
There will be a Mission meal at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, on Thursday. The time is 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Chestnuthill Center
Although closed Christmas Day, the Chestnuthill Senior Center, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church complex in Brodheadsville, will be open on Friday.
The activity is Tai-Chi with Dolores.
The light menu is tuna salad, broccoli and carrot salad, orange, yogurt.
The full menu is veggie egg bake, roasted diced potatoes, chuckwagon blend, sliced peaches, whole wheat bread.
Those planning to attend should call in their menu choice by 11 a.m. the day before to either 570-420-3735 or 570-242-6770.
Trivia Night
Post 927 will host its monthly Trivia Night Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and continuing until midnight.

Effort pantry
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be from 10 a.m. to noon open Saturday.

Holiday closings
Chestnuthill Township will close at noon on Dec. 31 in light of New Year’s Eve.
Effort UMC will be closed New Year’s Day. Church families are, however, invited to a covered dish evening complete with games, fellowship and laughter from 6 to 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve. They are asked to sign up in the narthex if planning to attend.
Polk Township will be closed for New Year’s Day. The Polk Township solid waste center will be open on Thursday, Jan. 2, for garbage and recycling for permit holders.
Nature calendar
New Year calendars from the Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center are now available.
The proceeds benefit the Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center’s programs. Twelve photographs, including one first place cover page, were chosen from all entries. The contest was open to amateur photographers only. All participating entries were required to be of a natural resource found in Pennsylvania’s Monroe County.

Suicide prevention
Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a neighborhood meeting on Suicide Prevention from 6 to 8 p.m., Jan. 23, titled We are Not Alone: What to Look for and Where to get Help. The snow date is Feb. 6.
Resource tables available from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The church is located at 150 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, next to West End Library.
