The board of supervisors of Eldred Township is slated to meet at 7 p.m. today.

WEHA meeting
The West End Home Association for the American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will meet at 7:30 p.m. today.
Legion Post 927 will meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Hoagie orders due
St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is accepting hoagie orders until this Friday. Orders are to be picked up Dec. 13.

PV Band Parents
A meeting of the Pleasant Valley Band Parents group is slated for 7 p.m. Thursday. The group meets in the Pleasant Valley High School band room.
Board of Education
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the administrative building. This is the reorganization meeting for the board.
Chestnuthill Seniors
Christmas activity will fill the hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. of the Chestnuthill Senior Center attendees on Friday. Next Tuesday it is blood pressure screening before lunch and Magic Moments beginning at 12:15 p.m.
The menu for Friday’s regular offering is tuna noodle casserole, California blend vegetables, lima beans and pineapple bits.
The light meal is egg salad, green bean salad, mandarin oranges and juice/pudding.
For next Wednesday’s regular meal, the menu lists sausage and peppers over whole wheat noodles, mixed vegetables, stewed tomatoes and sliced peaches.
The light menu includes salami and mozzarella, broccoli salad and pineapple tidbits.
Attendees are reminded to call either 570-420-3735 or 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. the day before to order.
November calls
Chief Don Zipp III shares that the West End Fire company responded to 39 incidents in November. That is down from last year, he says. However, the total count for the year, as of Monday, was 398 calls for help of some kind.
And, he shares, the department successfully passed its Pennsylvania Department of Health Inspection to maintain the Quick Response Medical Service.
WEFCO is licensed to provide this service for another three years.
Toys for Tots
The USMC Reserve is conducting its annual Toys for Tots campaign again.
New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert any day after 1 p.m. now through Dec. 15.
Santa visits
This Friday and Saturday, Santa will make at least two visits to the West End. On Friday, he will be visiting the Chestnuthill Township Park from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be crafts, music, cookies and cocoa from 6 to 8 p.m. as well as gifts, as per donations.
Families are reminded to bring a camera for pictures with Santa.
On Saturday, from 4 to 5 p.m., Santa will be at the Ross Township Building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg. The event includes a gingerbread craft, cookies and cocoa.
And again a camera is suggested so families can get pictures of their young one with Santa.
PVHS movie night
The Pleasant Valley High School’s Movie Night will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the high school auditorium.
Kids party
A children’s Christmas party is on the calendar for children 10 and under at the American Legion Post in Gilbert from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 14, hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary. Sign-ups are due by this Saturday at the Legion. The event will include games, prizes and snacks for the children and a visit from Santa. Space is limited to 60 youngsters. Call 908-220-4756.
Art winners set
Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center’s Art Opening of photo contest winners on display is Saturday.
Enjoy the winners of the Monroe County Natural Resources photo contest.
Winners will be revealed and the top 12 photos will be available on a 2020 calendar. Proceeds from calendar sales will benefit Environmental Education programs at Kettle Creek.
The opening reception is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The exhibit is running through Jan. 31, 2020.
Spaghetti dinner
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is holding fundraising spaghetti dinner from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The menu includes spaghetti, homemade meatballs, salad, bread, drinks and a selection of homemade desserts.

The West End Democrats Club holiday party will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the West End Fire House 715 in Brodheadsville.
Yule Ball
The Western Pocono Community Library is hosting its first Yule Ball from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday.
It will include snacks, dancing, a basket raffle and photo booth.
Formal or semiformal attire is requested.

CWU luncheon
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host the Church Women United covered dish luncheon at noon this Saturday in McCawley Hall.
Filled Christmas stockings for men, women, boy, girl — with labels attached — will be collected that day and up to Dec. 15.
CWU will then distribute these stockings to those in need in the community.

Old Time Christmas
Quiet Valley, Monroe County’s historical farm, is hosting its Old Time Christmas on Saturday and Sunday, and again Dec. 14 and 15.
Tours are given every 15 minutes, beginning at 3 p.m.
In addition, the event includes candlelight, traditional carols, the Live Nativity, a Victorian skit, a cabin story, the visit of the Belschnikel a bonfire, complimentary refreshments and an opportunity to shop for some special gifts.

Christmas celebration
Effort UMC’s Family Christmas celebration has a full roster of attendees signed in for Saturday. Attendees are reminded to bring a plate of cookies if able to. The church youth choir will be singing and dancing as part of the celebration.
The choir will also be singing at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday.
Riders meeting
The Riders, meeting at the Legion in Gilbert, will gather at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Craft/vendor fair
Pleasant Valley High School’s Craft and Vendor Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Special guest
The Rev. Steve Morton, District Superintendent of the North District of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, will bring his Advent message and Holy Communion to St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg Sunday.
The worship begins at 10 a.m.
This Sunday is also be Stewardship Sunday, the congregation’s Second Chance Sunday. A special collection will be taken. A fellowship time will follow the worship.
All are welcome to attend, to meet with Rev. Morton, to celebrate together with lunch.

Blue Christmas
Salem UCC, Gilbert, is holding a 2 p.m. Blue Christmas service this Sunday.
Welcome especially are those who have suffered a loss through death or divorce, have a family member or themselves suffering an illness, have relationship problems, have lost a job or are having financial problems.
The service offers comfort, peace, renewal and a time of fellowship, with light refreshments, afterward.
St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will have a Blue Christmas service with Communion at 7 p.m. Monday.
Party & caroling
St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown will hold its annual Sunday School Christmas Party on Sunday after the pageant rehearsal that morning.
The caroling in the community will follow.
