Science of Snow

The deadline to register for Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center Science of Snow program on Saturday is today. There is a cost for nonmembers.

Legion Auxiliary

Tonight the American Legion Auxiliary will meet at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert at 6 p.m.

Regional meeting

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will meet at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville at 6:30 p.m. today.

PVEN Board

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical network board of directors is meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church in Brodheadsville.

Board of Education

The Pleasant Valley Board of Education is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Administrative Building in the Brodheadsville school complex.

Seniors lunches

The Chestnuthill Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville, can order 10-grain pollock for Friday and tomato and beef casserole for next Wednesday or choose the lighter fare menu as well.

Valentine’s dinner

The American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert has set aside three evenings for Valentine’s Day dinner: Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The first evening, Valentine’s Day, offers two 90-minute seatings, at 5:30 and 7 p.m. The next evening offers three seatings, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and beginning at 8:30 p.m. The final evening, Saturday, it is two seatings again, at 5:30 and 7 p.m.

Free Throw Competition

The Knights of Columbus free throw competition, for boys and girls ages 9 through 14, will be held Saturday at Notre Dame in East Stroudsburg.

Registration is from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Both Council and District competition will be held this day.

Bingo time

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, bingo is back at the Chestnuthill Township complex and also the third Friday of each month thereafter, including March 15 and April 19.

There will be door prizes, raffles and pull tabs.

It is being hosted by the West End Park and Open Space Commission.

Cleanup time

Saturday morning, it’s cleanup time at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Just show up, no tools required and lend a hand.

Eagle watches

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is holding several Friday Eagle watches, including this Friday and March 1 and 15.

Join Pocono Avian Research Center on a field trip to the upper Delaware River in search of this country’s national symbol, the bald Eagle.

Once a rare sight, many wintering and resident eagles now inhabit this region and the probability for sightings is high. Meet at the EE Center at 8:30 a.m. Return is slated for 5:30 p.m. For cost and other information, call the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center at 570-629-3061 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. most Saturdays. The cost includes bus transportation.

Participants should pack a lunch and binoculars and dress for the weather. Stops will be made for coffee and snacks. Preregistration and payment is required by the Tuesday preceding the program. Seating is limited. Refunds will be given only if notification is made at least one week in advance.

Holy Communion

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will celebrate Holy Communion at its 8:15 a.m. and its 10:30 a.m. worship services Sunday. Confirmation class is scheduled for 9 a.m.

During all February Sundays, the church is collecting blankets and towels for the PVEN as well as condiments, such as ketchup, mustard, pickles, etc.

New church group

Effort UMC has a new group beginning this Sunday. The inaugural meeting of Christians in Connection is set for after the Sunday 11 a.m. service in Wesley Hall.

It is intended for those over 40 and primarily those living alone, although couples are welcomed who would like to share in some additional fellowship time by going out for breakfast, lunch or perhaps dinner, go to a movie, meet to play board games or do puzzles, etc.

Sign-ups at the church’s Welcome Center are requested.

Church celebrates

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a Prayer and Family Dinner event Sunday, beginning at 5 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share.

The church has a Sunday registration deadline for those planning to attend a dinner and comedy show, featuring Comedian Paul May on Feb. 22

Free child care is being offered.

Diversity Task Force

Pleasant Valley School District’s Diversity Task Force is scheduled to meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the District Office.

PVE PTO meets

The PTO of the Pleasant Valley Elementary School is slated to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Chestnuthill supervisors

The Supervisors meeting for Chestnuthill Township is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

The Planning Commission is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 20.

PVMS PTO

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PTO will meet at 9:45 a.m. Feb. 20.

Community lunch

A community lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville.

Submarine vets meet

The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meets regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines.

It is a local chapter of the national organization U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. whose purpose is to perpetuate the memory of shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country. Submarine veterans from all eras are encouraged to join. This month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 20.
