Community dinner

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free community dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today.

It will also serve one on March 20.

Memory Cafe canceled

Mrs. Bush’s Personal Care Homes in Kunkletown has canceled the Memory Cafe that was scheduled for today due to inclement weather. The next one will be held at 6 p.m. March 20.

Submarine vets canceled

The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meeting for today has been canceled due to inclement weather. The next meeting will be March 20.

Eldred Supervisors

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors meet at 7 p.m. today at the township municipal building. However, changes are made from time to time, so call the township to confirm the meeting.

The township’s Planning Committee is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday. Calling the township to verify.

Zion seniors

The church’s Parish Hall is the site for Thursdays meeting of Zion Seniors. The group gathers at 11 a.m.

Participants bring their own sandwich and beverages are provided. A small yearly dues amount is collected from members.

Lions meet

The Western Pocono Lions Club is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cherry’s on Route 209 in Kresgeville. The board meets at 6 p.m. and members can order off the menu at 6:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to the meeting to be given to the PVEN food pantry, or they can simply Feed the Purple Pig at the dinner meeting. That symbol of feeding the hungry in Lions District 14-U is approaching its 10th anniversary.

AARP tax help

Salem UCC in Gilbert is again hosting AARP tax aides for seniors. Help is available in the church Social Hall Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to noon on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information call Josh Germy at 610-824-5165.

Menu choices

The Chestnuthill group of Monroe County Seniors meets Wednesdays and Fridays at Zion Lutheran Church in the Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville. Doors are open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The hot meal choice for Friday is vegetable and cheese egg bake, and for next Wednesday it is cheese ravioli. Call the site manager at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. the day before. There is a suggested donation.

The Chestnuthill Center will host a Paint and Sip for Seniors event on Feb. 27 and March 1. The two-day event is being led by Laura Pride, Health and Wellness Coordinator for Monroe County Seniors. She is a novice painter.

Participants will be provided with pre-sketched canvases, paints, brushes, aprons and more. Each event takes two days/sessions to complete the painting. Must attend both sessions. They begin at 9:30 a.m. To reserve a space, seniors should call 570-420-3746 by one week before the event date.

Blood drives

On Friday the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive at Northampton Community College Pocono Hall Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and also one at the Blakeslee Community Center from noon to 5 p.m.

WELL meets

The West End Little League will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park building in Brodheadsville. All are welcome.

Praise service

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, has a praise service on its calendar for Friday at 7 p.m.

Trivia Night

The American Legion Post 927 is having a Trivia Night on Friday at the Post home in Gilbert beginning at 7:30 p.m. It will include testing one’s brain, and food and drink specials. For more information, contact Peggy at 610-681-5838.
