Polk Rec & Park
The Polk Recreation and Park Committee is slated to hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Polk Township Municipal Building in Kresgeville.
CWU to meet
Church Women United welcomes all Christian women to attend the group’s business meeting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the community room in Hughes Library, Route 611, Stroudsburg. Organized in 1959 as a local chapter, it brings women from different Christian faiths together to help in social justice concerns.

Early dismissal
Pleasant Valley School District families are reminded that district schools are scheduled to have early dismissals Friday.
Chestnuthill Seniors
This Friday, the activity at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will be B-i-n-g-o.
The light fare menu calls for tuna salad, marinated vegetable salad, sliced peaches, yogurt and two slices of whole grain bread.
For the regular lunch the menu is lasagna roll-ups, collard greens, winter vegetable blend, pineapple tidbits and whole grain bread.
Comedy Night
The Polk Township Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting and the American Legion Riders Post 927 will be presenting a Comedy Night/Dinner on Friday at the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company in Kresgeville.
Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6 p.m., and the comedy show is at 7 p.m. There will also be a baked goods live auction.
There is a cost. Contact Everett Shaver at 570-977-8208 for tickets. One must be 21 years or older to attend.
Trivia Night
The American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert is again hosting a Trivia Night Friday. It begins at 7:30 p.m.
Food and beverages will be available and prizes will be given out.

Nature’s Beauty
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is having an Art Opening for Faustina Falisi’s Nature’s Beauty collection from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The exhibit, Falisi’s first-ever art show at Kettle Creek, opens Friday.

Souper Sunday
Effort UMC’s Missions Team and Supplemental Food Resource Center sponsor Souper Bowl.
There will be soup pots in the narthex for donations of canned goods such as canned fruit, canned pasta, canned vegetables, canned sauces etc. and nonperishables. Back by popular demand, there will also be a little competition involving the teams that will be playing in this year’s Super Bowl.
Each soup pot will have a team name so people can vote for their favorite by placing their donation into that particular pot. Donations must be in by Sunday.
Bread pickup
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, Brodheadsville, church offers a bread pickup at 4 p.m. Monday.

Groundhog event
There will be a groundhog prognostication celebration on Sunday morning, as hosted by the Grundsow Lodge, at Cherry’s Restaurant in Kresgeville. It begins at 6:45 a.m. with breakfast, with the ceremony to follow when the groundhog will traditionally see its shadow or not. It gives its upcoming weather verdict in ways that only the group’s expert in PA Dutch understands and a translation will then follow.
Ross Supervisors
The Ross Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the township municipal building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.
Prayer Shawl
Effort UMC’s prayer shawl group will meet Tuesday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
