West End news for July 10, 2019
WEPOSC Meeting
The West End Planning and Open Space Commission is scheduled to meet at 6:30 tonight at the township municipal building in Brodheadsville on Route 715.
Eldred tonight
The regular Eldred Supervisors meeting set for July 18 is canceled, as was the July 3 meeting. A Supervisors meeting will take place at 7 tonight at the municipal building.
Included on the agenda will be zoning for medical marijuana, with public comment welcome.

Mission meal
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will again be the site for a West End Mission meal at 4 p.m. Thursday.
OES meeting
Chapter 99 of the Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rim Rock Masonic Center on Rimrock Drive in Bartonsville.
WELL board
The West End Little League board of directors is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. It is a closed meeting. The public meeting follows next Thursday at 7:30 p.m., also at Chestnuthill Park.
Chestnuthill Seniors
The activity for Chestnuthill Seniors for both Friday and next Wednesday is Healthy Steps in Motion with Dorothy.
Next Wednesday free blood pressure screening will be offered.
The light menu for Friday is garden salad, 3 bean salad, orange/whole wheat roll and yogurt. For next Wednesday it is chicken salad, marinated vegetable salad, diced pears and whole wheat roll and cookies.
The regular menu is posted as 10-grain pollock, Brussels sprouts, red cabbage and mango for Friday and Chris’ chuck roast, mashed cauliflower, mixed vegetables, an apple, and a whole wheat roll.
Lunch choices must be called in to the site manager by 11 a.m. the day before at 570-242-6770.
Bike Night
The American Legion Post 927 Pavilion, 646 Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert, by the tank on Route 209, will host a Bike Night at the Legion from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday.
People are invited to come hang out, show off their bike and have fun.
Music will be by L.A.M.A. DJ Freddy. Food available includes burgers, dogs, wings. There will also be a Best Bike contest and a 50/50 drawing.
The event is sponsored by American Legion Riders Chapter 927.

Effort pantry
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Coming home
The REACH Mission contingent of volunteers from Effort UMC are expected to come home Saturday.
Garden Tour 2019
The public is invited to the self-guided Monroe County Garden Tour on Saturday. It will be of gardens located in the Glenbrook and Creek of Glenbrook sections of Stroudsburg, South Stroudsburg, Shawnee, and Cherry Valley on Saturday.
The theme of the gardens is: Save the Pollinators.
Tickets will be sold at Bryant Street Park, Ross and Ross Nursery, 5801 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco, and Stonewall Garden Center, 4675 Route 447, Canadensis.

Chiz Rider coming
St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will welcome Chiz Rider Ministries of State College, into the sanctuary during the 10 a.m. worship Sunday.
Rider has a full concert schedule around the world this summer. He will bring his trumpet and musical talents to Saylorsburg, sharing a witness to Jesus’ work in his life.

Sunday supper
A community supper will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Fire Company report
For the month of June West End Fire volunteers responded to 40 incidents. This puts the department at 211 calls for the year. They had a successful festival with Polk, Blue Ridge and Kunkletown fire departments.
There was also success in the company volunteers classroom events. Seven out of seven firefighters passed their Firefighter 1 Certification Practical Testing. Now WEFCO waits for the written exam results, expected in about two more weeks.
In addition, one out of one passed his Firefighter 2 Certification Practical Testing. The written results will not be in to the fire company for six weeks, Don Zipp III said.
