Pot luck supper

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is slated to hold a potluck supper at 6 tonight. A praise service will follow at 7 p.m.

Sub vets meet

The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meets regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines. This month’s meeting is at 7 tonight.

The group is a local chapter of the national organization U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc.

The purpose of the organization is to perpetuate the memory of shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country. Submarine veterans from all eras are encouraged to join.

Sharing Vets

The American Legion Post 927 has been welcoming Boy Scout Troop 102 for some time. The troop will meet there at 7 tonight.

WELL meeting

West End Little League will meet in open session at 7:30 tonight at the Chestnuthill Township Park building in Brodheadsville.

Zion Seniors

Zion Parish Hall is where Zion Seniors meet. The next gathering of the group is at 11 a.m. Thursday. Attendees are asked to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided. There is a minimal dues amount per year.

Special collection

The Summer Reading Program at the Western Pocono Community Library will be collecting cans of tuna and boxes of mac and cheese in an attempt to help supply the local food pantry. Anyone wishing to contribute to the cause, please drop items off — only tuna and mac & cheese — at the front desk of the library during the Summer Reading Program now through Aug. 8.

Help reach the goal of 250 cans of tuna and 250 boxes of mac and cheese.

All other food donations can be placed in the food wagon by the front door.

PV board meets

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the administrative building in Brodheadsville.

Chestnuthill seniors

Playing Lyme disease bingo is the activity for the Chestnuthill Seniors group meeting at Zion Lutheran at 10 a.m. Friday after the opening coffee and tea time which begins at 9 a.m.

At 11:30 it is lunch time.

The choice for Friday are a lite lunch or a standard lunch.

The lite lunch offers: tuna salad, cucumber salad, apple/whole-grain bread and rice pudding.

The regular fare menu offers: cheese manicotti, spinach, carrots and tropical fruit cup.

Next Wednesday’s are meals are: lite salami & mozzarella, potato salad, banana/cookies, and whole grain bread.

The regular menu is set to be: Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, Cali blend, orange and whole grain bread.

Cleanup day

The American Legion Post 927 is holding its monthly cleanup day at the post home Saturday. It runs from 9 a.m. to noon. No tools are required. Participants are told to just show up and lend a hand.

LAMA is meeting

The Latin American Motorcycle Association Pocono Chapter will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Effort pantry

The Effort UMC pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday.

Family Table

St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown will hold its Family Table at noon this Sunday and on Sept. 15.

Effort UMC VBS

The theme for this year’s VBS at Effort UMC is: Roar! Life is wild; God is good. It will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 22-26.

Polk Supervisors

The Polk Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the township municipal building in Kresgeville.

Lioness Club meets

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Zion Lutheran’s Parish Hall in Brodheadsville. A new member will be inducted.

Iron Pigs event

The North District of the United Methodist Church, of which Effort UMC is a part, is having its annual fun time at the Iron Pigs game on Aug. 23, beginning at 7:05 p.m.

Reading program

The Western Pocono Community Library Real Stories from Real People continues Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for babies to 7 years old with Astronauts: Space Travel.

The same exciting theme is the topic for those ages 8 to 18 years old.

The following week the theme is Under the Sea: Earth’s Special Universe.

Children must be registered.

Blood drive

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Both Power Red and regular blood will be accepted from donors.

Miller-Keystone drives are held at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville the first Wednesday of the month, beginning at 7:30 a.m., and the third Wednesday of the month beginning at noon.

WE Republicans

The West End Republican Club meets regularly on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Lakeside Restaurant, 5154 S. Hamilton Blvd., Saylorsburg.

This month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Those wishing to eat before the meeting are asked to arrive by 6 p.m. Republican minded citizens are encouraged to join the group to socialize, listen, discuss and learn.

New leader start

Margaret LaFiura is the new director of Faith Formation at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. She began her work on Monday.

Kunkletown picnic

St. Matthew’s UCC Grove on Picnic Lane in Kunkletown will be the site of the 130th annual church picnic on July 27. Food stands open at 3 p.m.

The Cramers Band & Friends will be the music entertainment from 3 to 6 p.m.

Car show benefit

The sixth annual Wheels for Meals benefit for the county’s Meals on Wheels program is coming to the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert on July 27.

Hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rain date is July 28.

All proceeds from the show will benefit the Meals on Wheels organizations of Monroe and Northampton counties.

The event is being presented by the Monroe County Cruisers Car Club, Trolley Shops Cruisers, Hi-Winders, Pocono Area Corvette Club and Easton Area Corvette Club.

Registration opening

The Monroe County Youth Field Day registration for the free event for children being held Sept. 7 is open.

The form is available at mcyfd.org. Children must be between 8 and 14 to be able to participate in this free event being held at Camp Trexler in Jonas.

Golf tournament

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity will hold its 23rd annual golf tournament and dinner on Sept. 20, at Great Bear Golf Club in East Stroudsburg. All proceeds will support the administration of all of MCHFH’s projects including Home Preservation, which allow homeowners affected by low income, age or disability to make necessary repairs to their homes.

The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, a buffet dinner, trophies, awards and prizes and all proceeds from the tournament benefit Monroe County Habitat for Humanity’s vision of a Monroe County where every person has a safe, decent place to live.

Film competition

The Kettle Creek Environmental Fund is currently accepting submissions to its Annual Outdoor Environmental Short Film Competition from filmmakers attending a school in Monroe County. The director of the first-place film will take home a $500 cash prize, second place $250 and third place $150. Each winner will also receive two tickets to the Kettle Creek Environmental Fund’s Fundraising Dinner on Sept. 20 at Trout Lake where the winning films will be shown.

Films are required to have an environmental or outdoor recreational theme and be no longer than five minutes. Films must be submitted on a flash drive or disc at the Kettle Creek Environmental Center no later than Aug. 2, along with completed entry form.
