Wheels for Meals

The Fifth Annual Wheels for Meals car show, benefiting the Monroe and Northampton Meals on Wheels organizations, is taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.

The rain date is Sunday.

The first 100 cars will receive a dash plaque and goody bags.

There will be food, drinks, awards, door prizes, tricky trays and entertainment.

Family camping

The West End Park & Open Space Commission is offering a family camping experience at the West End Regional Park on Evergreen Hollow Road, from 2 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday.

There is a cost.

All tents must have an adult. Campers are asked to bring their own sleeping bag (bedding), lawn chairs and snacks.

Tents and all other camping gear will be provided. Limited equipment will be available.

The scheduled information sessions will include various topics such as: establish a campsite, fire building, types of food to pack, meal preparation and proper bedding.

Activities include: Intro to Archery, nature hikes, make glow worms, star gazing and s’mores.

Guest preacher

St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown will welcome Preacher Bonnie Bates at its 9 a.m. worship service. She is a new Conference minister.

Visiting pastor

Salem UCC, Gilbert, will have its 10 a.m. service Sunday with Pastor Virginia Heimer filling the pulpit.

VBS Mission

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will have its next Vacation Bible School event Sunday, from after the morning worship service until approximately 12:30 p.m.

It will be a continuation of the theme: Helping Our Neighbors. The focus this time is Camp Noah, a camp for children of Puerto Rico who have been displaced due to hurricanes.

Organizers say It is hard to believe that there are still families without electricity or, even worse, homes after all of this time.

The focus will be to help the children to understand the hardships that these neighbors are facing. A light lunch will follow the event. Attending children are reminded to bring a sleeping bag, blanket or towel for this event.

Children must be registered.

Out of the Blue

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting a summer concert, Out of the Blue, at 6 p.m. Sunday, at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville. Featured will be blues and classic rock including Clapton, SRV, Beatles and more.

Attendees are reminded to bring a blanket, lawn chair and bug spray.

Free ice cream will be offered attendees.

Polk supervisors

The Polk Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the municipal building on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Brodheadsville church complex to continue the group’s good works. Newcomers are welcome.

Republicans meet

The West End Republican Club meets regularly on the fourth Tuesday of each month. This month it will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Lakeside Restaurant, 5154 S. Hamilton Blvd., Saylorsburg.

Those planning to attend, and wishing to eat before the meeting, are asked to arrive by 6 p.m.

Drummer guest

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, will welcome drummer Steve Kaufmann in the Children’s Group at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday as part of the Special Programming Summer Quest.

Picnic coming

The Kunkletown picnic will be here July 28 in St. Matthew’s UCC grove.

Activities begin at 3 p.m. with music by the The Cramers Band & Friends to 6 p.m.

Children’s activities begin at 4 p.m.

There is also an adult horseshoe contest, for which one must register by 3:30 p.m., and a cake raffle and cake walk starting at 6:30 p.m.
