Fourth of July Mass

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will have a Mass at 9 a.m. on July Fourth. There will be no 8 a.m. Mass and the church office will be closed.

Fourth celebration

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church is hosting a Fourth of July celebration tonight, beginning at 6 p.m.

It will end with a fireworks show.

There will be no normal evening service due to the celebration taking place on the church property.

Home Association

The West End Home Association for the American Legion Post Home 927 will meet at 7:30 tonight at the Post home in Gilbert.

The Post Home will be closed for the Fourth of July. That includes the bar.

PVEN clothing help

To receive help with clothing from the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, call 570-992-3136. Income guidelines and residency requirements must be met. Distribution is set for Fridays from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

All eligible recipients must call at least 24 hours in advance to reserve a time slot on pickup day. The same is true for food distributions on Tuesdays and one Saturday a month.

SFRC next week

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open July 13, not this Saturday.

The hours are from 10 a.m. to noon.

Sunday celebration

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville will serve Holy Communion at its 9:30 a.m. worship service. The service will also include patriotic songs.

McMichaels UMC

This Sunday, as it true for most first Sundays, Holy Communion will be served at McMichaels UMC. The worship time begins at 9 a.m.

Communion served

Salem UCC, Gilbert, will celebrate Holy Communion at its 10 a.m. worship service. A social hour will follow.

Senior luncheon

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a senior luncheon after the 12:10 p.m. Mass on Monday. It will be a cookout in the pavilion.

Bible school begins

St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown Vacation Bible School begins Monday and runs through Friday. It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon daily. The theme is: To Mars and Beyond!

It will include Bible storytelling, crafts, games, snacks, science experiments, music and a field trip to East Stroudsburg University’s Schisler Museum and McMunn Planetarium to which parents and guardians are encouraged to attend.

It will also include fellowship, friends, fun, faith, says Staci Gower, Coordinator of Christian Formation.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet group will meet on Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Korean War vets

The annual luncheon picnic held by the Korean War Veterans of America for all senior veterans currently residing in local assisted living facilities and in the community is scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the post.

OTOH meeting

The annual meeting and members meeting for Operation: Touch of Home in June was pushed from the originally scheduled date.

The annual meeting and members meeting for the election of board of directors and officers will now be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.

The original proxy materials can be found at www.operationtouchofhome.org.

Take note that the dates have not been changed on the materials.

Effort UMC VBS

Effort UMC will hold its Vacation Bible School from July 22-26 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration forms are on the Welcome Center in the main church entrance.

Volunteer sought

Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is looking for a resident interested in helping to shape the township’s future by serving on the Planning Commission.

The commission reviews proposed subdivision and land development plans, and also reviews and often proposes amendments to the township’s land development ordinances.

One does not need to be familiar with the township land development ordinances to volunteer; most members have become familiar with them as they served.

The commission meets on the third Thursday of the month. Members are expected to review documents between meetings.

Fundraiser continues

The Western Pocono Community Library’s Storybook Theatre Yankee Candles fundraiser is continuing only through July 10.

The group of teenagers work very hard to put on the best production they can, but the productions cost money, so the group has been running a fundraiser through Yankee Candle to help cover the costs of licensing and supplies. To help the group as they continue to grow and entertain the public for free, go to www.yankeecandlefundraising.com and in the box for Group enter the group number 999981970. WPCL’s Storybook Theatre will receive 40 percent of every sale.

Garden Tour 2019

The public is invited to the self-guided Monroe County Garden Tour. It will be of gardens located in the Glenbrook and Creek of Glenbrook sections of Stroudsburg, South Stroudsburg, Shawnee and Cherry Valley on July 13.

The theme of the gardens is: Save the Pollinators. The gardens selected will include award-winning gardens, 100- and 150-year-old Japanese maple trees, beehives and a waterfall.

Also included is a house Jacob Stroud gave his daughter Sarah Stroud, which still has the original doors and windows. Participants can tour inside and the gardens.

Tickets will be sold at Bryant Street Park, Ross and Ross Nursery, 5801 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco, and Stonewall Garden Center, 4675 Route 447, Canadensis.

Family Table

St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown will hold its Family Table at noon July 21 and Sept. 15.

Free concerts

The free summer concerts continue at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville with a performance by Out of the Blue at 6 p.m. July 28. Blues and classic rock: Clapton, SRV, Beatles, Eagles and more.

Bring a lawn chair, blanket and bug spray.
