Special service

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding an evening of prayer and praise in honor of St Ignatius of Loyola at 7 tonight.

The evening will include a teaching, praise music and conclude with Eucharistic Adoration. Refreshments will be available after the prayer. All are welcome

Volunteers needed

PVEN needs volunteers to help sell Boscov’s discount tickets at the Boscov store in Wilkes-Barre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates: Thursdays, Aug. 1, 22, 29; Sept. 26 and Oct. 3. Coupons are sold with all of the proceeds of the sales coming back to PVEN.

Monroe OES meets

A meeting of Monroe Chapter of the OES will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Center on Rimrock Drive. The Deputy Grand Matron is expected.

The chapter is involved in various outreach programs including: Blessings in a Backpack, school supplies, and OS Harmony Express, and is accepting monetary donations to help these projects along.

Legion meets

American Legion Post 927 will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Visitors expected

The Western Pocono Community Library is expecting several special guest in the coming two weeks.

Those special guests include: Thursday at 6:30 p.m. the young adult group will be visited by The Center for Vision Loss. This program will include free vision screening for all in attendance.

Tuesday 10:30 a.m. and Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m., West End Fire Company will be visiting the library with special stories, equipment and, of course, one of the firetrucks will be at the library. These programs are for all ages.

At 1 p.m. Aug. 7, West End Community Ambulance Association will be visiting the library with some great stories and insights on what it takes to be an EMT and paramedic. This program is also for all ages.

And at 1 p.m. Aug. 14, the Western Pocono Community Library Summer Reading Program will come to a close with a combined program for all ages. Enjoy crafts and displays from the different programs all summer long.

Center closed

From the Loder Center comes word that the Chestnuthill Senior Center meeting at Zion United Lutheran Church will be closed Friday.

Next Wednesday’s schedule includes: coffee and tea beginning at 9 a.m.; a game of rummi at 9:30 a.m. and the lunch hour beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The day’s menu for the light meal includes: garden vegetable salad, chickpea salad, banana, Jello/pudding.

The regular meal includes: pasta primavera, broccoli and cauliflower, yellow squash, and a plum.

There is a meal cost and one should let the site manager know of one’s choice. Her number is 570-242-6770.

Middlecreek Fusion

Middlecreek Christian Church is hosting its 2019 weekend of free music, ministry, fun, food and much more beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and ending Sunday, with a worship service at the pavilion.

Although the event is free, love offerings will be appreciated and accepted throughout the weekend. Friday night dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed by music, a movie under the stars, then a campfire Bible study.

Saturday starts at 8 a.m. with breakfast followed by games, lunch, crafts, games, children ministry sessions, music, dinner and much more. Sunday begins at 9 a.m. with breakfast and then the closing worship service starting at 10:30 a.m.

Salem Communion

Salem UCC in Gilbert will serve Communion during its 10 a.m. worship service.

A social hour will follow the service.

SAL meeting

The Sons of the American Legion will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday for the group’s monthly meeting.

Home Association

The West End American Legion Home Association will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Post home in Gilbert.

PVEN needs

PVEN will hold its back to school days for families in the community who could use help with school clothing and supplies on Aug. 10 and 12 with 150 children signed up already.

Residents are asked to go through their children’s school clothing and donate items that no longer fit that are in great condition. Also needed is new underwear and socks, as well as backpacks, pencils, pens, crayons, notebooks and other back to school supplies.

Residents are asked to collect items through Aug. 4, and bring them to church, or drop them directly at PVEN on the porch of the Clothing Closet in the donation bin.

Ross supervisors

The Ross Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. the first Monday of the month at the Ross Township municipal building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

Chestnuthill board

The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Eldred supervisors

The Eldred Board of Supervisors meetings are on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7 p.m. at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road. To verify next week Wednesday’s meeting, visit the website or call 610-381-4252.

OTOH needs help

Operation Touch of Home is seeking volunteers willing to commit to help with planning events, assisting with fundraisers, bringing in fresh ideas, as well as attending meetings and drives.

OTOH meetings are held at 7 p.m. every second Tuesday of the month at the American Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert.

An upcoming event is the Legion Riders Bike Fest in Palmerton Park on Aug. 10. Set up is from 7 to 10 a.m.

Hot dog time

The West End Volunteer Fire Company is holding a hot dog sale at Kinsley’s ShopRite from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 15-18.

The stand will be located in the parking lot.

Flagger course

On Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon, Eldred Township will be hosting a flagger certification class. This is a PSATS-sponsored class.
