Dinner tonight
Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, has a free community dinner on its calendar for today from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Chestnuthill Planning
The Chestnuthill Planning Commission meets at 7 tonight at the township municipal building in Brodheadsville.
Troop 102 meets
Boy Scout Troop 102 will meet at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert at 7 tonight.
The scoutmaster is George Liebegott.
Eldred government
The Board of Supervisors for Eldred Township meets at 7 tonight at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.
However, since changes to the schedule can be made, check the township website or call 610-381-4252 to verify.
The township planning commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the municipal building. Verify by calling the same number.
Special visitor
Lions District 14-U District Governor Don McConnell will be the honored guest as he visits the Western Pocono Lions Club when it meets Thursday, at Cherry’s Restaurant in Kresgeville.
He will install the officers for the upcoming Lions year as well as induct the club’s newest member, Tommy Kresge.
The board will meet at 6 p.m. and the members can begin to order off the menu at 6:30.
Fire company needs help
Like many area volunteer fire companies, West End Fire Company has a need for more volunteers, which include future firefighters, junior firefighters, fire police, associate members or ladies auxiliary.

Hoagie sale
Polk Volunteer Fire Company in Kresgeville is having a hoagie sale. Orders and money are due by this Friday. Call 610-681-4370 for costs and to be involved. Pickup is set for 5 p.m. June 27.

PVSD hours
The Pleasant Valley School District is now operating on summer hours and will do so until Aug. 16.
Offices will be open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The offices will be closed on Fridays.
The June 27 school board meeting set for the District Office has been moved forward to this Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m.
QOP flea market
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert is holding its annual flea market Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. There are various departments with many offerings. Among them are tools, books, children’s toys and clothing, musical instruments, baked goods and more. There will also be a dollar tent.
Chestnuthill Seniors
Healthy Steps with Dolores will be the activity at the Friday meeting of the Chestnuthill Seniors who gather at Zion Lutheran’s Fellowship Hall Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning at 9 a.m.
The lite-fare menu offers garden salad, three-bean salad, an orange, whole wheat roll and yogurt for Friday and salami and mozzarella, orzo salad, nectarine a cookies and whole-grain bread for Wednesday.
The regular menu lists tuna noodle casserole, Brussels sprouts, California blend vegetables and an orange for Friday.
Next Wednesday’s regular fare offer is chicken piccata, orzo Italiano, Spinach, fruit cocktail and whole grain bread.
Attendees should let their site manager know by 11 a.m. the day before if and what they wish to order.
Movie night
McMichaels UMC will have a movie night on Friday, beginning at 8 p.m. featuring “A Dog’s Purpose.” Bring a lawn chair, as the movie will be shown outside if the weather cooperates. Food will be available to purchase.
Effort UMC pantry
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Monroe Dems picnic
The Monroe County Democratic Committee picnic will be held at the American Legion, East Stroudsburg, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Entertainment will be by Roy Ramos.
Two services held
Salem-St. Paul’s Church family can be involved in two services Sunday.
At 9:30 a.m. the regular summer service will be a Healing Service. Then at 2 p.m. members can help residents of the Getz Home in Jonas with Holy Communion.
Conservation’s picnic
The Monroe County Conservation District and the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center staff invite everyone to the family picnic being held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday for an afternoon filled with hands-on activities and refreshments.
People will be able to meet some of the staff, take a hike on a trail or just enjoy a nice summer day outside at Kettle Creek. There will be a full schedule of programs including live snakes, bird banding, a mini escape room and more.

VBS announced
Middlecreek Christian Church will hold its Vacation Bible School this coming Monday through Friday. Sessions will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
This epic African adventure, ROAR, engages the whole herd. Kids ages 4 to 12 will explore God’s goodness through Bible lessons, games, crafts and snacks. They will also celebrate a ferocious faith that powers them through this wild life.

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the township municipal building in Kresgeville.
Knit & Crochet
Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet team will meet to ply their collective needles beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Newcomers, experienced or not, are welcome.
Lioness Club meets
The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
It is hoped that the club’s new scholarship winner, Melanie Reyes, can attend the meeting.
The club continues with its collection of canceled stamps for the Wounded Warriors project.
It also collects grocery receipts from Kinsley’s and Weis Market as a source for service projects’ required funding.
West End GOP
The West End Republican Club is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakeside Restaurant in Saylorsburg.
Those wanting to have dinner before the meeting are asked to arrive by 6 p.m.
Conference announced
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, has announced that the Women of Purpose Conference in Hershey, is happening on Nov. 15-16.
Those planning to go must have the nonrefundable deposit in by June 30.

Intergalactic VBS
St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will hold its VBS July 8-12. The voyagers who participate will explore the Bible, learn songs, make space-tastic crafts, be in awe as science experiments are conducted, and cosmic competitions and recreation take place outside.
They will also taste out-of-this world snacks, and go on an afternoon adventure on Tuesday to East Stroudsburg University’s Schisler Museum and McMunn Planetarium, with parents and guardians encouraged to attend.
Children ages 3 and up are welcome to be part of the adventure of learning.
Friday’s finishing up celebration will include lunch and water games and will be held in the grove, shares Staci Gower, Coordinator of Christian Formation.
