Love week
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church is doing the second half of its Love Week projects. The day runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Monday was volunteering at a local park. Tuesday it was at the Garden of Giving. Today it is the church’s cleanup day and tomorrow it is reaching out to VALOR.
Township meeting
The CJERP (Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk) Regional Comprehensive meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.
Hershey deposit due
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church’s involvement in the Women of Purpose Conference in Hershey, on Nov. 15-16, mandates that the nonrefundable deposit be in by Sunday.

Fall registration is now open for 2019 fall soccer. It closes Monday.

Jam session
Eldred Township’s Community Center has jam sessions weekly on Mondays from noon to 3 p.m. in Room 148.

Ross Supervisors
The Ross Township Supervisors are slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Ross Township Municipal Building on Anchorage in Saylorsburg.
Supers meeting
The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The township office will be closed on the Fourth of July.
Church celebration
The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church will not have a church service next Wednesday. Instead, the church grounds will be the site for a Fourth of July celebration, beginning at 6 p.m.
Lawn chairs or blankets are suggested.
Mission meal
West End Mission will serve a meal on Thursday, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert.
Fireman’s Festival
Three days of fun and celebration is to benefit the four West End Fire companies this week. It is being held at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Thursday’s festival runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Friday’s from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; and Saturday’s from 2:30 to 9:30 p.m. including fireworks at evening’s end, weather-permitting.
Various bands and entertainers will appear during the three-day festival. There will also be a car club involved.
Admission is by car. Lawn chairs are advised.
Seniors celebration
The Chestnuthill Senior Center meeting in Zion Lutheran’s Fellowship Hall will have its Fourth of July celebration on Friday.
It includes coffee and tea at 10 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m. and then Don Bell & Band at 12:15 p.m.
The lite fare menu includes egg salad, green bean salad, orange/juice, and whole grain bread.
The regular fare menu lists stuffed shells, collard greens, peas and banana.
Attendees are reminded to call the site manager at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. the day before to confirm their choice.
Trivia Night
The American Legion Post 927 is again hosting a Trivia Nite on Friday at the Post home in Gilbert. It begins at 7:30 p.m. and runs to midnight. It offers a time to test one’s brain as well as food and drink specials.

Planning ahead
McMichaels UMC is looking ahead to Christmas in regard to helping others.
The church family is collecting shoe boxes and contents for the boxes such as colored pencils, markers, scissors, small tablets, combs, small toys, hair items, crayons, small dolls and cars, small stuffed animals.
Saturday worship
Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville continues with its 5 p.m. worship on Saturday as well as the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship on Sundays.
Helping others
Members of the Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville will visit the Getz Home in Jonas at 2 p.m. Sunday.
They will help residents there with Holy Communion.
The service at the church itself is at 9:30 a.m.

Registration for the West End Soccer League’s fall sessions ends Monday. Contact WESL at wesl.us.
Blood drive
Miller-Keystone Blood Center will be at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville for the first drive July on July 3.
The drive begins at 7:30 a.m.
Two weeks later, on July 17, the second July drive begins at noon.
Bug Fest
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center will be celebrating Bug Fest 2019 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 13, at the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center in Bartonsville.
Bug Fest is a celebration of insects and great fun for families with children ages 4 to 12. Families are invited to come out and have some buggy fun with live critters, a butterfly tent, displays, games, and take home crafts; all day, all about those six-legged friends.
All day activities include insect safaris, live insects, insect collections, painting with maggots and games. It also features a photography exhibit by Maya Shikhman with information provided by the Monroe County 4-H Club’s Insects Are Us members.
The Insect Olympics will take place twice at 11:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. Those who come dressed as a favorite bug, nymph or caterpillar can participate in the Insect Parade.
There is an admission fee for children under 12. Those who come dressed as their favorite bug receive a $1 discount on the admission fee. Parents are free. No preregistration is necessary. Due to limited parking, families are encouraged to attend in either the morning session 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or the afternoon session from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Bog walks
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers guided Tannersville Bog walks at 10 a.m. weekly on Wednesdays through Sept. 11.
These 2½-hour walks will be guided by an Environmental Educator from the center who will teach attendees about the bog, a unique boreal bog for this area. It is owned by the Nature Conservancy. The bog is filled with bird songs and interesting insect-eating plants.
Participants will meet at the bog parking lot by 10 a.m.
Help needed
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program has volunteer opportunities throughout Monroe County, including for minor repair, friendly visitors and hospital volunteers.
Minor Home Repair needs men or women to help with minor repairs including ramps, grab bars, hand rails and more. That can help residents remain safely in their homes.
Friendly Visitors involves weekly or biweekly visits or phone calls to lonely clients in need of socialization and kindness. Visits needed for one or two hours within the volunteer’s availability.
Hospital Volunteers are needed for various positions; times and dates can be flexible. Positions include patient escort, receptionist, clerical, main entrance greeter, or gift shop. For these and many opportunities call RSVP at 570-420-3747.
