Community dinner
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will host a free community dinner at 5 tonight.
The church will then have a 6:30 p.m. Lenten study and supper. The choir practices at 7 p.m. The midweek Lenten service follows at 7:30 p.m.
Lenten services
Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will host the five-church cooperative Lenten services involving Monroe County West End and Carbon County’s East End churches tonight.
The theme of Thy Will be Done continues. The preacher will be Pastor Kathryn Foster and the Bible character, Paul.
The final midweek Lenten service will be March 21 at Salem UCC in Gilbert, with the Rev. Deborah Scheffey presenting the message and the Bible person Lydia.
The evening begins with a 6 p.m. simple soup dinner. One may bring a sandwich.
An ecumenical choir will practice at 6:30 and the worship service begins at 7 p.m.
The host choir director chooses an easy anthem and choir members from all churches are encouraged to attend the 6:30 p.m. rehearsal and sing each week.
Church offering envelopes received will be forwarded to their respective churches. Loose offering received will go to the host church.
In case of inclement weather, one can check Channel 13, WSBG and/or WVPO for service cancellation information.
The host church will also place a cancellation notice on their respective answering machine if possible.
Effort UMC continues with a Bible study with a light meal each Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., and a Lenten service to follow in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. The Bible study will be Max Lucado’s most recent study on the letter to the Philippians, called Anxious for Nothing: Chaotic World.
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert will have a an Explanation Seder Meal at 6 p.m. March 21.
Auxiliary meets
The American Legion Post 927 Auxiliary is scheduled to have its monthly meeting at 6 tonight at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.
Lecture series
Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library, Rick Smith will present his lecture titled: The Molly Maguires.
All lecture series events are free and open to the public. Seating is limited, and preregistration is required.

WEPOSC meets
The West End Park and Open Space Commission is slated to meet at 6:30 tonight in the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.
Zion Seniors
Zion Lutheran Church’s Seniors group is slated to meet at 11 a.m. Thursday. It is for those 50 years old and older.
Attendees should bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.
Mission meal
Each Thursday Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, hosts the Mission meal from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. in McCawley Hall as organized by West End Mission.
Lions meet
The Western Pocono Lions March dinner and board meeting will be held on Thursday at Cherry’s on Route 209 in Kresgeville. The board will meet at 6 p.m. and the members can begin to order off the menu at 6:30 p.m. It is planned to begin the dinner meeting at 7 p.m.
All members are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to the meeting to be given to the PVEN food pantry, or one can simply Feed the Purple Pig at the dinner meeting.
Bike group
The No Kids Without Wheels group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 116 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert.
All are welcome.
Little League
The West End Little League will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville. This meeting is open to all.
Seniors menu
The Chestnuthill group of Monroe Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church Wednesdays and Fridays in the Fellowship Hall are scheduled to have tomato basil fish on Friday and a cheeseburger next Wednesday.
With the storms and closures that may have changed.
Call the site manager by 11 a.m. the day before to make the lunch reservation by calling 570-242-6770. She could verify the menu choices.
