Strong Women
The Eldred Township Community Center is again hosting the Penn State Extension’s Strong Women Program. The event will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Eldred Community Center in Kunkletown and is open to women of all ages, with an emphasis on those over 50.
The program is a lightweight resistance set of exercises designed to strengthen muscles and increase metabolic function.
The program runs for six weeks from March 25 through May 1. There is a cost.
Program instructors will evaluate participants’ fitness at the beginning and end of the program.

Blood drive
Miller Keystone is holding a blood drive at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville today. It begins at noon and continues to 6 p.m.
Free dinner
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will host a free community dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today.
Lenten services
Tonight Jerusalem UCC in Trachsville will host the five-church joint Lenten worship services, beginning with soup from 6 to 6:45 p.m. The ecumenical choir will practice at 7 p.m. The service begins at 7 p.m. The theme is: Prayer and Fasting. The preacher will be Brian Holben.
Eldred UMC continues its Lenten study from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., with Pastor Robin leading the study. Soup and salad usually begin the evening. The Lenten service begins at 7 p.m.
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, continues its midweek Lenten schedule of a Lenten study over a light supper of bread and soup, and then a worship service at 7:30 p.m. Sign-ups have been requested.
Bible study
St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, offers a Bible study Wednesday evenings, beginning at 6:30 p.m., which is currently exploring self-inventory and the Bible’s application to personal life within the present culture.
Band concert
The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School Beginning Band concert is scheduled for 6 tonight.
Eldred Supervisors
The Eldred Township Supervisors meeting is slated for 7 tonight. Call the township to confirm at 610-381-4252.
Chestnuthill planning
The Chestnuthill Township Planning Commission is slated to meet at 7 tonight at the township municipal building on Route 715.
Sub vets meet

Zion Seniors
Anyone enjoying 50-plus years is welcome to attend Zion Seniors meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Parish Hall.
Bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided. There is a small yearly dues fee.
March meeting
The Western Pocono Lions March dinner meeting and board meeting will be held on Thursday at Cherry’s on Route 209 in Kresgeville. The board will meet at 6 p.m. and members can begin to order off the menu at 6:30 p.m. The dinner meeting is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
Altar & Rosary
The next meeting of Our Lady Queen of Peace Altar & Rosary Society will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Cafe due to the Lenten service on Wednesday.
All ladies of the parish are welcome and encouraged to attend.
League meeting
The West End Little League will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park building in Brodheadsville. This is an open meeting.
Seniors lunches
This coming Friday, the seniors who meet at Zion Lutheran Church as part of Monroe County Seniors can listen to speaker Rachel Wydra, whose topic will be sugar talk. The hot meal they can order, which must be called in by 11 a.m. the day before to the site manager, is pasta primavera, cauliflower, stewed tomatoes and applesauce. The lighter fare meal is egg salad, green bean salad, nectarine, whole grain bread and juice.
For next Wednesday the regular fare menu is to be herb roasted butternut squash, broccoli and cauliflower, diced pears and a whole grain dinner roll.
The lighter fare menu calls for salami and mozzarella, cauliflower salad, apple, whole grain bread and cookies.
Doors open at 9 a.m., with coffee and tea available.
The activity on Wednesday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., is Sip and Paint/Health and Wellness-with Laura Pride.
Fish & Chips
Salem UCC, Gilbert, is holding its fish and chips dinner sale again this week as well as the next three Fridays. Dinner must be ordered ahead of time by calling 570-620-1425 any day or 610-681-4733 on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings and picked up between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. each Friday. Dessert will also be available for a charge.
Lenten dinners
The Knights of Columbus will be serving a Lenten meal on Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m. in McCawley Hall of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert.
Diners will have a choice of fish and chips, baked fish or pizza. Included in the cost of the dinner will be soup and salad.
PVHS musical
Pleasant Valley High School will present “Seussical the Musical” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The production directed by Dan and Marcie Mulligan, with the orchestra directed by Julius Sarkozy, will be a colorful spectacle with dancing, lively storytelling and powerful singing.

Kettle Creek hike
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a spring hike at Kettle Creek at 10 a.m. Saturday. The two-hour hike on the trails at Kettle Creek will allow a look at the many natural happenings that spring brings to the Pocono forests. There is a cost for nonmembers but EE Center members are free.

Mini retreat held
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a mini-retreat with Monsignor Campbell from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the Café titled A Lenten Walk with Jesus and Luke.
Pantry open
The Effort UMC food pantry, serving the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. It is for families in need and limited to a 12-week lifetime duration per family. A valid driver’s license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required. Volunteers are always welcome and needed. Anyone who would like to volunteer in any capacity and does not yet have background check clearances, please see the church secretary in her office.

Spaghetti fundraiser
Effort UMC will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for its REACH mission trip from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Wesley Hall. There will be salad, garlic bread, sauce with or without meat, beverage and dessert.
