St. Matthew’s
Holy Week and Easter services at St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown include the following:
On Maundy Thursday there will be a covered dish supper at 6 p.m. and the Tenebrae service, a service of desertion and shadows at 7 p.m.
For Good Friday a time for quiet prayer begins at 6 p.m. and the Way of the Cross; a worship begins at 7 p.m.
The annual Easter egg hunt, candy toss, crafts, bounce house, and visit from the Easter Bunny is set for 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Weather permitting, it will be in the St. Matthew’s UCC picnic grove (124 Picnic Lane, Kunkletown). In the event of inclement weather, it will be held at the church.
Easter Sunday begins with a Sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. in the picnic grove. Breakfast will take place in the fellowship hall at 7:30 a.m. and traditional service begins at 9 a.m.
The church’s Sunday school meets 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. weekly. There are preschool (ages 2-5), elementary (ages 6-9), tween (fifth and sixth grade), and a (includes teens who have been confirmed) classes. Folks may join the church family anytime for a Bible lesson, discussion, activities and games, music and visual aids.
Closings & meetings
The Chestnuthill Township office in Brodheadsville will be closed for Good Friday. The Chestnuthill Township supervisors will meet in public session at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building on Route 715.
Eldred Township in Kunkletown will also be closed.
The Polk Township office in Kresgeville will be closed Friday in observance of Good Friday. It will be open Saturday for regular hours for solid waste.
Solid waste permits are available for purchase at the office. They are due by April 15 and can be purchased with cash or check.
Ross Township office in Saylorsburg will also be closed on Good Friday. The township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday.
The West End Memorial American Legion Post 927 will be closed Easter Sunday.
The next meeting on the calendar is the West End Home Association at 7:30 p.m. April 4.
PVA services
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will have a Good Friday services at 7 p.m. Communion will be served.
The Easter services are 8, 9 and 11 a.m. Child care will be available only during the 9 and 11 a.m. services.
McMichaels worship
Holy Communion will be offered at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday at McMichaels UMC. The church will be decorated with Easter flowers for this celebration of the Resurrection.
Middlecreek musical
Middlecreek Christian Church in Kresgeville will present the musical “From Garden to Tomb” on Friday beginning at 7 p.m. It follows Jesus from garden to tomb, focusing on His love and gift of greatest price.
The church will gather on the hillside at the church from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Easter morning and then have breakfast at the church before the 10:30 a.m. service.
St. Peter’s schedule
The Methodist church in Saylorsburg begins its Holy Week and Easter celebrations with a 7 p.m. Holy Thursday service with a Last Supper celebration in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice. All are welcome at the table.
On Saturday, neighbors and church families can bring the children, grandchildren and neighbor kids to the grounds of St. Peter’s UMC for the church’s Community Easter Egg Hunt. There will be 4 age group sections filled with plastic eggs, scattered and hidden for gathering. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. All children, toddlers to age 10, are invited. If it rains or snows, the rain date is April 7. St. Peter’s United Methodist Church is next to Dollar General, 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg. Call 570-992-7311 if there are questions.
The Easter services are at 7 and 10 a.m. The earlier service is planned as an outdoor venue, followed by coffee and light breakfast in the church’s Fellowship Hall. The 10 a.m. service features song, uplifting Scripture and a message of hope. A Fellowship coffee hour follows worship.
Christian Education classes are held at 8:45 a.m. every Sunday for children and adults.

Salem UCC events
Salem UCC in Gilbert will have a 7 p.m. service on Good Friday. That will include the tolling bell, devotions, special music, prayers and dramatic visuals.
The Easter service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday. The church will be adorned with Easter lilies and other flowers, a ringing of the bells, colorful butterflies and Holy Communion, with Gene Hamilton worship leader and preacher.
Zion’s services
The Lutheran church in Brodheadsville will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. and a Good Friday Tenebrae service at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday there is a 5 p.m. service. It is an informal spoken service.
Easter Sunday services are at 6:30, 8 and at 10:30 a.m. with Sunday school at 9:15 a.m.
